DSGB
It was done a lot earlier than usual. There are a few things I'm not happy about, but over all I'm pleased.

DSGB
what arent you happy with? Something about the head/face is not right. It looks smaller than it should. Especially the muzzle. I have gotten used to it, but my first reaction was that it looked "sick". I'm not sure it can be fixed at this point, unless it is remounted with another cape. I want the cape from my deer. I've had two deer mounted by the same taxidermist (Ray). The same guy has mounted four deer for my dad and also did some for my grandfather when he was alive. He has also done deer for my uncles on both sides of the family. When I called Ray, I learned he had a new shop. I was given directions and met him there. When I arrived, he introduced me to his new "partner". I was told that Ray was planning on retiring two years ago (the last mount I had done was 5 years ago), but this other guy had told him he would open a shop and supply everything if he would come work with him. That's what they did, or so they say. Turns out, the new guy is the one who did all the work. I didn't learn this until I went to pick up the mount. Ray wasn't even around. Seems to me that this guy is using Ray to get all his customers. No problem, I'll find a new taxidermist. The problem I do have is, this guy charged $75 more than what I paid for my last one (I figured after 5 years it would be more) but doesn't do near the quality of work. I'm at the point where I'm deciding if I want to call Ray and express my displeasure with the mount and how it was handled, or just take it as a lesson learned and use another taxidermist in the future. Tom2008
DSGB you should call your "actual" taxidermist and tell how what you think about the mount. If you aren't completly pleased with the results of the mount than you have every right to say something about it. My opinion is that the muzzle does not look right. I remember your buck when you posted it up for the deer contest and it did not look like that. Congrats on the buck again he is a great one none the less. It looks like he used the cape from a button buck.. My brother had one done and the guy who did it used a button bucks cape, it looks a lot like yours. RTF
Man, I never really say this and I don't like to talk about others work but...... something does not look right. I think shockwave might be on to something.
Guest dedicatedmarine
he should've used a little red tint in the ears, and a little flesh color in the tear ducts and nose, how much did you pay for that mount?
SaskSniper
ya there is something with the muzzle. the only way to fix that would be to get it mounted again with a different cape. there is no way, that i am aware of, to fix this without getting it remounted. i think he also should have added some white in the ears with a bit of pink. they look too yellow. personally i like to have the ears back too but thats a personal choice. makes all the antlers look larger, not saying your buck isnt big, its a gorgeous animal. just on every buck it makes it look bigger from a booner to a little buck. when i worked for my uncle we probably did 95% of the whitetail and mule deer with the ears back because thats what the customer wanted. you can also do the ears in different positions from each other. like one back and one slightly more ahead. if you watch whitetail in the wild their ears are always moving in different directions. to me it gives it that more natural look. plus getting it mounted with a turn in a semi sneak form will also help your trophy look more life like. another good thing to do is get it turned with the side you want to highlight more. not that im an expert at allll or even close. just my opinions. but none the less great buck
wtnhunt
Looks like some detail work was overlooked. No doubt inside the ears should have some fleshtone color instead of the stained yellow look. Overall it does not look bad, but think I would have been a bit unhappy with it too.

christsavedme
I think it looks pretty good aswell. You sound like me. Out of all my mounts there is not one that I can't sit back and nit pick to death. Just finally decided to be happy with what I got....there is nothing I can really do about it at this point and they all look pretty good. No one else notices the little things that I do! Congrats on a great buck!
DSGB
That's pretty much the attitude I've taken about this. There's nothing that can be done without using another cape and I don't want to do that. I'll be looking for a different taxidermist, though. I already have a couple in mind.
