VTbowman
Well I tried it and it must be beyond me but I aint getting it to stick well. Lost 4 inserts inside my turkey target this past weekend. What do you guys use on your carbons for insert glue? I had always just used whatever fletching glue I had with fair results. Maybe lost one insert per year. I may go back to that. LOL

Swamphunter
Hey Shawn...I'm not an expert but my proshop guy cautioned me against using hot melt glue on carbons for two reasons. One he said the heat can damage the arrow when installing them, and two there is no way to remove them...
VTbowman
I think this is what got me Ken. I tried to heat the field tip and alum insert over a candle while still holding it with my fingers. I felt that if it were not to hot for my finger then it would be ok for the carbon. I melted, glued, and seated several this way but it was right around the temp where hot melt like to reharden. LOL I think I am just going back to using my Bohning Fletch-tite Plat. like before. Thanks
LifeNRA
AAE Speedset glue, never had any inserts yet come off! Little expensive, but hey, it works for me! I also use the same glue for my fletchings, same result, never came off!
tedicast
I use Bohning PowerBond. I have never lost an insert...even to a tree. It dry's slowly, giving you time to spin test broadheads too, unlike super glue, or fast sets.
dg
I've used hot melt with carbons. Get a .22 caliber gun cleaning brush and use it on the shaft to roughen the inside dia.. Clean the interior shaft. Heat the insert or nibb, spin it on the hot melt, insert in shaft and quickly insert the arrow end into a cup of water. JimPic
I use hot melt on my inserts and never lose them in targets.Prep the inside of the shaft and when you put the insert in,dip the point in cold water--that'll set the glue better

dg
To take inserts out, I use a gun cleaning rod screwed in the insert, and then heat the rod. The heat will transfer to the insert, then glue. The glue will let go the second it's ready because I pull the cleaning rod while heats applied. Guest Finn
GT glue last year, I had trouble with inserts pulling out of my GT Pro Hunters....here is the response from Gold Tip: The problem is probably the glue he used to glue them in. We cannot control what the dealers use to glue their inserts in with. We recommend our Tip Grip which is a high quality Cynoacrolyte that has been thoroughly tested. If you use this stuff you wont have any problem. My guess is that they used hot melt or a fast cure epoxy. With carbon shafts the Super Glues work much better as the shaft material is very porous and really bonds well. I would go back to the dealer and have him reinsert them a make sure he uses a reputable super glue, or Tip grip as we recommend. I used a .270 caliber wire brush, then swabbed it with acetone and use Loc Tite Gel super glue and none of those have pulled out.

Guest IllinoisMackDaddyHunter
Super glue is the best. I worked in a bow shop for a year or so. The guy who does my arrows now uses super glue. Even on those 150 dollar a dozen ones. try it and dont use to much, a couple of small drops on each side of the insert should do the trick. good luck!!!! Leo
I'd stick with a super glue type gel. Gels have a much better gap fill and honestly inserts don't fit all that tight. Word of caution when using these gels. DO NOT use water to clean the dust out of the arrows before gluing in the inserts. This will significantly weaken the bond. Use acetone on a q-tip instead. MichiganHunter
I dont know what the shop uses but i repair my own when they break or pop off i have had my best results with a type of super glue called ZAP GAP...it dry's like a frickin rock...and i dont have alot of problems....i buy it at like Walmart and at some craft stores usally got it...it seams to attach really well to the carbon arrows just make sure that u put your knock in the right allinment quick cause it drys quick and dampen the inside of the carbon shaft with a Q-tip/cotton swab...just moisten it...the glue seams to stick better when it's damp..........Good luck
