ThethirdI
My best friend and I would like to go on a hog hunt in Texas somewhere but aren't sure where to start looking. Of course we don't want to spend a million dollars, but at the same time would like some quality hunting. I would prefer some spot and stalk hunting over sitting in a premade box blind or treestand. A portable blind wouldn't be bad if we had to go that route. Anyone from Texas know of a good place to go or a good place to start? I have heard that the feral hogs are out of control in some areas and the Javelina are thick and getting permission to hunt is pretty easy, but I've never been to Texas and have nobody to ask for permission from. Any suggestions would be super! Thanks for looking guys!!

texastrophies
You are probably not going to have much luck in trying to find a place to hunt by just getting permission. But, there are numerous ranches that charge a nominal fee to let you hunt because they want to get rid of the hogs also. I will do a little research for you and post up some info. A couple of things you need to know. You will need a current Texas hunting license. If you were born after 1971 you will need a hunters ed cert. On feral hogs there is not a limit of how many you can take other than what the ranch limits you to. On javelinas, the limit is 2 per year (license year). Open season on both night or day. otdrzmn04
texas is loaded with feral hogs....i would say your best bet is to contact a large cattle ranch in west texas. some are more than willing to let you come in and shoot as many as you can take
ThethirdI
Texastrophies do you mean hunter ed. only or do you have to have a bowhunter ed. certificate also. Some states require the bowhunter ed. certificate I think. I have looked high and low in Ohio for a place to get the bowhunter ed. certificate and haven't yet found a place. I have had my regular certificate for years. When you say ranches do you mean hunting or working ranches?
OJR
Check out eBay! There are always listings from Texas for hog hunting!
Jeramie
Check out eBay! There are always listings from Texas for hog hunting! Orlan is right. I see hog hunts in Texas a lot. Ebay has tons of them. A lot are large cattle/ deer ranches. They get rid of the hogs in the off season. Many of them have a $1 a day fee and you basically pay for food and lodging. Btw, Oklahoma has a lot of feral hogs too, including some Russians. Dont be afraid to do a search for Hogs in Oklahoma.
ThethirdI
I'm definitely going to have to check out ebay. You folks aren't the only ones that have suggested it. It sounds like my best bet so far. Thanks for the info!
