Well, this was my first time turkey hunting, and I got no bird. Season ended yesterday, and I failed to bag a bird. Thats got me down :(

Out of five days, I had only two good days for turkey hunting....two very windy days, and one day raining. Oh well, I've learned a lot from this season. Anybody else on here fail to get a bird their first season?

Take care,

Nathan

Well, I hope it doesn't take as long as you guys, I'll probably drop dead from all the frustration!!!! LOL, I have absolutely NO patience.......Not quite a good mix with turkey hunting LOL  I'm hoping to raise myself enough money to buy a 4th season tag. Maybe I'll have better luck--and weather--then.

Take care,

Nathan

Bagging a turkey is something that takes time, patience, luck and lots of effort. You don't go out and instantly become a great turkey hunter. You put in your time, learn from your mistakes, and pay attention to what the turkeys tell you. They will show you where they want to go, you will learn what they want to hear and when they want to hear it. But you won't learn any of this with out experience and time in the field. Go out intending to enjoy yourself. If you happen to be lucky enough to take a tom all the better. If you don't get a turkey at least you had some time out in the woods with nothing to bother you.

It will come.

Thanks for the PM's buddy.....I am glad you are getting in the woods....I got lucky my first year.....then I thought I was the stuff....lol...boy was I wrong...the turkeys play hard to get for one reason....survival, and to give us grief....trust me, MrWiggley is so correct......just enjoy yourself......its all about having fun doing it.......you will be fine..............al

Great post Wigs ;)

I started turkey hunting back in the 70's and didn't kill a bird until my 4th season. Back then I was told to let the birds teach you how to hunt them. In a nutshell, Wigs just told you the same thing. Hang in there and enjoy what comes.

Last year was my first and I took a Jake on my 4th day of hunting. Him and another came out of no where, and did not make a sound. He was about 6feet from me when I shot him.

This year, I thought I might have had beginners luck last year so I was prepared not to get one. But I scouted and scouted and did I mention scouted. Then the first day I took my 8yr old son with me. All I could hear was him snoring really loud so we left after about 2 hours. I happened to come across a bunch of hens and their toms driving to the area I was to hunt. I decided to change the area I was hunting. For 3 days I sat there through rain, sleet, snow and wind. Then on the 4th day in that field(5th day hunting) It was about 8:45am and I heard a gobble that sounded pretty far away. I kept calling back everytime he gobbled. And after about 15 min he was in the field. It took about 45min of calling back and forth before he was in shot range. Right before 10am I got him.

I can only hope that next year will be the same.........

I should mention that I hunt alittle differently than most it seems.. I get the kids off to school then head out into the woods by myself. I normally don't get there until after 8am. My trick is scouting my butt off for months before.

Don't give up it is a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the same as someone here said, the first gobble I heard off the roost, and I was hooked!!! I'm a turkey hunter for life now :D I'm gonna get out there and I will learn from my mistakes. I had plenty of them to learn from this season LOL :D:confused: But I'm gonna see if I can earn a bit of money and get out in the woods for 4th season. Wish me luck!!!!

Take care,

Nathan

That's ok, I have been at it for 20 years and I make mistakes every year. And every year the birds teach me lessons that I have been tought over and over. But I always have a great time in the woods listening to ole tom gobble his head off at anything he hears. Keep at it and keep your chin up, it will come.

Have been trying to hunt turkeys here for about 5 or 6 years now, and I really am no good at it. Killed my first one last year. This year has been terrible here for me, still got a little season left, but have not heard a bird gobble the last 4 or 5 times I have been out, pretty frustrated.

5 days and youre whining......lmao.........i hunted 3-4 days a week for 5 weeks , for 2 yrs. and didnt get a gobbler, the 3rd year was a charm....it may look easy but it's not...and if you happen to get blessed with an easy first, great, but it doesnt usually work that way.....get out there and be thankful and learn from your mistakes and learn from just being out there and your time will come....this year i knew where the birds were but they didnt gobble, finally on the 7th day of hunting these particular birds, i got one.....last year, it took 5 days to limit out.....it just depends on what God wants...
