dfol20
It has always been a dream of mine to have some land of my own. Something that I can always be sure that my family and I will have access too. However, I don't have much experience with farming or land managing and have no idea where to start. How do you find land and determine if it is a good price? What is a good way to be able to afford it? And what are some ways to make some money off of it? Is there any recources out there to help someone get started with this? Books, maybe? I am young and would like to start planning for this now. It would be an awesome dream to reach. LETMGROW
Buying land isn't just a dream. It is a solid investment in your future. Sit down and mull over what you want the land for. IE: hunting etc. then you will have an idea where to start looking. Obviously not within a city's limits. Check the assessment rolls. What is the land really worth? Will there be development in the foreseeable future? Will you be squeezed out with residences around you? Look into buying a farm which is going out of business, foreclosure or an estate sale. Maybe you could sell some building lots to help offset the initial investment. I could go on and on but would only confuse you more. Sit down with a reputable Real estate agency and discuss your desires and then move SLOWLY. Hope I have answered your questions somewhat, or at least started the thinking processes, Lynn
dfol20
thanks for the help. You don't think it would be smart to start off with a small property around future housing development? Would it cause the cost of your land to increase faster? Then you could sell it and find a larger property in an area you like better. LETMGROW
That is always a possibility, around here the land is being bought up so fast the prices have skyrocketed. We live near an Army Base which is rapidly expanding. Housing is going in on a daily basis. Whether you want to buy on speculation is up to you and your financial status. In my area if you don't buy it now it will be sold tomorrow! Farms are being bought up, subdivided and turned into building lots daily. Land values are 400% or more higher than they were 10 years ago. If I had only known then what I know now!
