Well my plans to go listen for gobbles this morning didn't happen because I didn't get back from PA until 9pm last night:eek: And I have some sore muscles, lol, but I plan to go out around noon and see if those gobblers are out in the field...and go out tonight also.

So I had a really good time! It's been awhile since I've hunt out with friends and we've just goofed off, lol. We left around 4pm Friday, the backpacking professort who is an awesome lady, drove down to Ole Bull State Park in PA. Lots of people with camper trailers there fishing, camping, and turkey hunters to. Pulled the van into a spot and set up our tents and made a campfire and all that fun stuff. I crammed me and 2 girls that are friends into my tent, tight fit but hey it worked. We went to bed at 10, but I brought the camera and w took some pictures...way to funny, we were laughing our heads off!:D Then we tried to go to sleep but it was mostly like dozing, but then my friends woke up at 4am and I woke up when a truck rumbled by, I think turkey hunters. Then we were laughing because none of us wanted to get out in the dark and go to the bathroom and our sleepingb ags were warm then someone told a joke and all I know is we were crazy...then we fell asleep. So to Saturday, after packing up and breakfast, drove to Cross Fork, where the section of the STS trail is we were hiking. Oh man, that was a long hiked. Hiked up this mountain, then across the top, then down another mountain, then along side a mountain with a creek at the bottom. then we had lunch at 2pm. Then at 3pm started the hike back but what was hard was hiking back up this one mountain....oh man..as if your legs aren't already tired and you have to haul yourself with a big pack on back up it. I was praying, lol;) We made it and the rest of the going was fine because it was flat and the end was all downhill. What is really cool besides the 31 photos I took (and I wish I had that new camera) is that we were walking along the trail back, through Mountain Laurel, and I was at the back, as usual because I look around alot. Well I glance to my right and see a shiny black blob then glance again and it is a hen turkey! I call everyone over and I get a few pics and they all got to see it. She sat there about 10 yards away, I think trying to hide, then after about 5 minutes she got up and ran off. Being in the Laurel, I'm guessing we came up on her by surprise and she couldn't fly being in the Laurel which is somewhat thick. It was cool though, everyone is like "Good eyes Ruth" and the one boy in the group hunts so he thought it was really neat. I'll get some photos up later or tonight.

We got back to the van and left Cross Fork a little before 7pm. Got back in NY, stopped and pad Pizza for dinner, the prof. felt bad were were getting back late, and got back around 9. mI definitely thanked her for inviting me along, what a blast! But she said I was a help in more ways then she could name...lol. (the one girl, who was invited along who is a friend, shegets car sick and when we hit the trail she didn't feel so good so I was keeping an eye on here but thankfully she felt better and had a good time).

Anyone get any turkeys in PA? I didn't hear any gunshots at all...maybe it was just the area we were in, which is really mountainous.
