Newarcher
Re: tree stand accident Summit has a great harness system and long rope that is designed to be used with chain on/hang on stands. There is also a similar product called angel wings. Buy a harness, use a harness, keep it attached any and all times that your feet are off the ground. Most falls happen when transitioning from stand to ladder/sticks and vice versa or when climbing up/down with a climber. This is precisely the time that most hunters disconnect their harnesses. Bottom line: If you disconnect the harness when transitioning or climbing, you are not wearing a harness at all. Fortunately, I learned that I am not ten feet tall and bulletproof a long time ago. I hope he gets well soon and recovers fully. New

Newarcher
Re: tree stand accident [ QUOTE ] THIS WAS MENT TO REMIND US ALL THAT IT CAN HAPPEN SO FAST AND NOT TO LET YOUR GUARD DOWN NOT A FORUM FOR THOSE OF YOU THINK YOUR GODS GIFT TO US . [/ QUOTE ] I am not sure who this was directed towards so I feel compelled to respond. Stating that someone had a harness on when it wasn't attached to the tree is like saying someone was wearing their seatbelt in a car solely because it has one. Further, detaching it when transitioning (which is the most dangerous point) is like always using your seatbelt except when driving on icy roads with four bald tires. If it isn't attached...for all intensive purposes...you aren't wearing it. My point is that hunters have to find some way to stay attached when transitioning. I have heard multiple stories just like this one where the hunter fell trying to get from stand to sticks or while climbing with their climber. And I have seen the attitude of hunters that it will never happen to me. I wouldn't make that bet. In my opinion, the attitude of "I had a harness on but it wasn't attached" is the most dangerous one going and that needs to be addressed as much as not wearing one at all. Oh and in case that comment was directed towards me, you may just be correct...I may be God's gift to you. That is if by reading this you stay attached while transitioning and happen to fall. Have a good one, New

whitetailkiller
Re: tree stand accident i gotta learn canadien!!!!!!!! it took two reads to understand it!!!!!!!! lol ...... too bad the guy fell,,, lucky it wasn't worse,,,, and if he had his harness attached to the tree he wouldn't have fallen to the ground...... i don't like the idea of leaving my well being in the hands of gravity...it wants me on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!! always wear my harness up the tree while i'm in it and back down the tree.... be safe everyone...this could have been any one!!!!!!!!
