Have you ever seen the 1000 Islands region of NY?

Greetings!

I wanted to share some pictures from our recent fishing trip to the 1000 Islands region of the St. Lawrence River. I took my daughter Abigail on a fishing trip for yellow perch.

It's hard to see but there are about 10 islands in this picture plus the one we are fishing from.

Here is one of about 30 jack perch we caught.

Here is one of the three freighters that went by.

Once we got home we grilled some venison backstraps, then fried up the perch for an old fashion north country surf and turf!!

I made one trip up there back in the 80's for a B.A.S.S. tournament. We fished out of Alexandria Bay and the fishing was fantastic. Lot's of 2 - 5 lb smallmouths and quite a few largemouths. The northerns were actually so plentiful, they became a problem. You couldn't hardly fish for the largemouths in the shallow weedy cover because the darn pike wouldn't leave your spinnerbait alone long enough to let the bass have a shot at it! I made the run across Lake Ontario over to Kingston Bay one day, and we met one of those ships out in Lake Ontario. When they go through the St Lawrence they're going slow and there's plenty of islands to get behind to block the wake, but out in the middle of Ontario, 20 miles from shore, those big girls were throwing off a 9 foot wake and there ain't nowhere to hide. It got pretty western out there a couple of times in my 19 foot Skeeter!
