DSGB
Anyone know how to clean and preserve a turtle shell without damaging it? I found a huge Alligator Snapper (dead) and want to keep the shell. I've been told to bury it in a fire ant bed, but right now I don't even want to get near it. toddyboman
No clue. I remember you posting that pictures of it. I bet that thing smells wonderful right now...
RTF
You got me on that one. I would just flesh it out as best as you can and let it air dry. Another possible method would be a slow simmer using sal soda.
artisticwhitetails
You could build a large enough basket from wire mesh or some chicken wire, place some weights inside along with the snapper and simply toss it back into the lake or pond it came from. Make sure its fully submerged and rope the basket to the bank so you can pull it back in. Wait a few months and nature will take care of all the mess leaving you nuthing in the cage but bones and I would assume the shell. No stink, no mess and very little work for you to do. Just a thought.
