Jeramie
Its a tad late but not to much! Just a couple of weeks ago we had a 2-day freeze that killed large stuff. The tomatoes wouldn't have made it. Friday I got off work at 11:00 and headed to "The Tomato Man" who is famous for his crazy varieties and hard to find heirloom tomatoes. He is actually not doing well, cancer. His daughter is now running the place. I intended on getting 40 plants but they are GREAT people and I ended up leaving with far more for the same price. I later called my wife's Grandma so she could come help. She loves this stuff. She wanted some Celebrity tomatoes so I picked up what I though was a few. Turned out to be FAR more than a few. By the end of the planting time we stuck 61 plants in the ground..... We are going to have WAY to many tomatoes. This guy raised odd types and I cant wait to try them. I have countless different types but there are a few Im really looking forward to trying such as.... * Cherokee Purple: Deep purple tomato. Suppose to be the best tomato you'll ever eat. * Carbon: Black tomato with a Brick red inside. Great tomato from Russia. * Brandy Wine: Favorite tomato overall by most people who grow "fine" tomatoes. * Kellogg's Yellow Breakfast Tomato: Literally developed by Kellogg for breakfast. They are suppose to be Great. And there was another that holds the record for the largest, it weighed in at 7 1/2lbs. She said the tomatoes often get large enough that one slice will cover a large hamburger! I cant wait to see those monsters! Ill keep everyone updated as they grow (with pics too)! wtnhunt
Planted our tomatoes here Saturday. Think we are about right on track time wise. Like you say, a week or so earlier, the hard freezes would have got them. Aside from finding some jalapeno plants, think we are done. bfletch7441
We put it off until the very last minute, and got our entire garden in over the weekend. Tomatoes, squash, zuchini, green beans, pumpkins, cucumber, corn, cantaloupe, and a few other things I can't think of right now. I can't wait till it starts putting off. Jeramie
Wow, you guys are lucky. I wish i could get my garden in this early. Unfortunately the ice isn't even off the lakes here yet. No but your deer are WAY bigger so you're still ahead in the game.... I was going to water last night but luckily a storm came through. Im glad too. My plants were thirsty. We had a few days in the 80's and it dried out the soil quick, fast, and in a hurry. My wife planted our squash and zucchini last night. Im going today to pick up some bell peppers and a few other things! I cant wait for this stuff to produce. The only thing I can collect thus far is Radishes and Onions. Im happy to see those though! Guest Andrea
Y'all got me wanting a tomato sandwich. I could literally live off tomato/lettuce sandwiches and creamed corn all summer.
