lil hunter
So I was thinkin about it today, and I decided I need(Want) to buy a new rod/reel combo for mainly crappie and bluegill. I'm mainly wantin a spinning reel set-up. What do you guys use? Any reccomendations? Keep it under $50-60 though. lol. It's been forever since I've even looked into buying a new rod or reel for fishing, since I don't do it much anymore. This will be my first summer that I have a drivers license, so I should be able to get out more often.
LifeNRA
Go here>>> http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Subclass_10151_-1_10001_100003002_100000000_100003000_?CMID=FISUB_OS_RODREELCOMBOS_SPINNINGCOMBOS You can get some great combo's. But I use a BPS Bionic Blade 6.5' light action rod 2 piece, and a Shimano Spirex 1000 rear drag reel. That set up will cost about $120. Had it for years! I dont buy rear drag reels except for pan fishing. But the two piece will come in handy for transportation! The longer rod will help greatly in casting them smaller lures and such! Guest BigKahuna1243
I have the a Shakespeare Agility combo, i believe it is the 5'6 light version. It cost 40$ i believe, and it has worked great while fishing for bluegill. Light/Ultralight action equals a lot of fun!
Gator
Check out WALMART in the spring, they will mark down their reels. The one I use now alot is a Mitchell Ascent with matching rod, got one for about $30, then they marked'em down the next year to $15. Also, look at shimano reels, good reels at a decent price. Couple that with a 6' light/med light action rod, 8lb test line, and it is a good combo. My ULTRALIGHT is a 6' rod with a small mitchell reel, 4lb test line, use it mainly for jigs. LifeNRA
you should be good with any ultra light or light rod ... i like to keep my rods shorter for crappie i think bout 5'6" and i have a shakespeare reel I used to think the same way! But when I seen a friend of mine throwing a 1/16th oz. jig with no other weight or bobber three times the distance I could with my 5' 6" rod! Now I use the seven footers! Hoyt03
plus a longer flimsier rod will help in bringing the fish in with a little more give so your not ripping through the mouths all the time. Bass pro should have a combo that will work for gills and crappie for your price. Give Gander Mt a look as well, or Cabelas
