Turkeygirl
Went out about 7:00pm, got up to the top of the gravel pit around 7:15pm...7:30 came and left...7:45 came and left...thought maybe I heard some wing beats a bit a ways but not really positive they were. 8:00 came and left....8:30 came and left...8:45pm it's getting pretty dark, tried owl hoot, no response... Walked the edge of the field over towards where I thought I heard wings, hooted...got real owls hooting but nothing. Could today being 10 degrees cooler and windier then yesterday maybe caused the turkey to roost down lower like in a ravine? Last night it was warmer and they were up on the side of this ridge...wondering if they roosted down below in small ravine near a swamp... Not sure what to do tomorrow morning...they are coming through this ridge and up to the field alot...seen them in the afternoon and evening in the field and this morning I think they headed for the field...We may get rain tomorrow so if we do, I'll be by that field. Anyway any thoughts or suggestions? Always seems like I'm on to them the night before the night before and then when the night before the opener comes, I lose them..Good news is didn't hear or see anyone..no neighbors. HELP! Strut10
If you're going to get rain and/or wind through the night tonite........I'd suspect your birds are roosted lower than on a clear, calm night.
Turkeygirl
I think forcast is saying rain after 3am and in the morning...don't know if I should be up by the field or down by the open swamp where they could be roosted by. I see tracks in there alot but it is also really wet...not sure how much turkeys like wet feet?
Strut10
How far is it between the field & the swamp??

Strut10
Maybe be 1/2 way in between at gobbling time. That way you can go whichever way you need to with relative ease. If it's raining much, they should head for a field no matter where they are.
Guest Colorado Bob
I would head for the field, setup & call from there. CB
