Turkeygirl
Went out tonight up on the gravel pit as usual...got there about 7:30pm. Been hearing them roost around 8:15pm. Well 10 minutes after I get there I here a bird or birds fly up in the same spot as last night....a small ridge or step about 100 - 150 yards below the ridge they were roosting on. Next thing I know the turkeys fly off and I hear the crash of a tree falling...weird...thought maybe it was just the breeze which wasn't much. About 10 minutes later...CRASH...this time behind me back towards the edge of a field in the woods...maybe 75-80 yards away...So I'm thinking "Is a bear walking around taking down rotten trees or is some idiot out here trying to intentionally spook turkeys or get them to shock gobble?" I sit there and 8:15pm comes and go and I hear another crash this time a ways away maybe down by the swamp I was in the other morning....Maybe it was just a random occasion where a few trees decided to fall tonight..I dunno. We get bears through here now and then... So no real plan for the morning other then I'm gonna head down towards where I heard the turkeys fly off to. Been no gobbling from the big bird...is this normal after he gobbled his head off the night before and morning of when I shot and missed him? Does being after the full moon play a roll? Or is it just a lull? Not sure if I should be concerned or not... I won't be hitting state land till maybe Tuesday, unless I fill my last tag this weekend. Monday I'll give the birds a break and go to work and most should be outta the state land by then.

Turkeygirl
Well I didn't make it out...after 4 days of getting up at 4am...my body said SLEEP. So I did...I don't think anyone will be on that turkey being that he hasn't gobbled last 2 days and unless they know where he roosted, he's got a hen. So is he going to be gobbling again? I don't know why they didn't settle on their roosts last night but if something spooked them...will they be back?
Rhino
He should be gobbling again but when is the question. That depends on things like, how close he stays with hens, how bad he was hurt from your shot, weather conditions, and his fickled mood. At the range you shot at him some pellets were certain to hit him. None apparently were vital though. Most gobblers around here that have hens with them do little more than strut and drum when they are together. That could easily start happening with that bird. Chances are there are more hens in the area he's getting together with too. With as often as it sounds like those birds have been roosting in the same area, they will be back. They apparently like it there and have probably been roosting right around there most of the time long before your knew it.
