nolanspawn
Well my family was tired of all the hours we were spending using chainsaws trying to clear some spots around some of our deer stands. Well this year we decided to buck up and spend the $$ and have someone come and clear it with a bull dozer. The guy who did it came highly recommended from the ranch that neighbors us. He has some spots you can see 800 yards in all directions. With as dense as the cedar is in our area thats a **** of a feat to clear that much. The guy is really good at leaving all the oaks behind. Of all the clearing you see, not 1 oak was dozed, some lost their limbs because there we too close to the cedar when he pushed them over. This is only one of the stands we have had worked on, he has about 3 more to go. He isn't even done with this one yet, still had a section to clear between two big clearings and then its going to be nice and open like it used to be YEARS ago. You can see off in the distance how dense the cedar was. We obviously know its going to take the deer some time to get used to the area being so open, but with a food source it wont be too long. These first two are makeshift panoramics, you get the idea though. I couldn't get perfect croping. http://www.nolanspawn.com/RANCH/pics/clearing/panoapr2.jpg http://www.nolanspawn.com/RANCH/pics/clearing/panoapr3.jpg

Ravin R10 man
looks good, you just need to fertilyze and lime, then get something planted in there, and you are good to go!
wtnhunt
That looks pretty good. Looks like a lot of rocks though. Any plans yet on what you are going to plant?
dogdoc
sweet--I need to clear off some cedars on my place. What ever you fertilize those rocks with it seems to work pretty good. You need to get some seed down after a good rain--doubt you can do much discing.
nolanspawn
Its definately a rocky area. Cant really take a plow to it at all. I actually did alot of it by hand just spreading the seed then using a heavy rake to pull dirt ontop of it. I used a food plot mix that the local feed store had just as a test. If something can actually grow that way then ill actually buy a good brand.

Depending on what you are looking for, a brand name might not always be the best bet. Some name branded seeds ar enot so great, while others are pretty good. Not trying to sell you on or off something, but if you are looking at perennial mixes, would suggest taking a look at the hamann farms clover trefoil/blends or penningtons clover blends. nolanspawn
I always wanted to give Tecomate Lab-Lab a try since it can survive on little rain.
