JimT
I just bought a JVC gr-d33 Mini DV camcorder for my wife for christmas assuming I could hook it up to my pc as is. Guess not. It did not come with anything to hook it up. Do I need a firewire setup for my pc or something. I do not even know where to start with this so any help would be great. Is Firewire just a faster cable than usb? Do I need another card for a pci slot, or can I plug it into an existing usb port? Etc...Etc...Etc.... billkay
Re: FireWire? Firewire/IEEE is faster than USB I believe. You'll need to make sure that the camera has the port. If it does, and your computer doesn't, you'll need to install one. My guess is that it would be a pci card.
smallmunster
Re: FireWire? Regular firewire (iLink, IEEE 1394) is faster than USB 1.0, but not as fast as USB 2.0. There is now Firewire 800 that is faster than USB 2.0. If the camera as a firewire port you will need a firewire port on your PC. If it is not built in, you will need to install a PCI firewire card. It is pretty easy to do and some video editing packages come with one included if you are going that route.
