Re: Pic of my recovered powerbelt bullet

I thought the PB's were supposed to shed the skirt. I remember reading somewhere that the skirt staying on affected accuracy, and that taking the skirt off, and putting a dab of bore butter then putting the skirt back on the bullet, was a way to be certain the skirt was seperating. Don't know if that a good idea or not, and can't remember where I read it.

The 295 gr.Aerotip, copper-clad, powerbelt I retreived from my hog in Tenn. is almost identical, mine did not come apart though. It mushroomed excellant. I did not recover the cup though. Russian boars have pretty tuff hides, so I expected good expansion. I have always used the copper-clad pb's,

no experience with the pure lead ones though.

Re: Pic of my recovered powerbelt bullet

I've recovered a number of PBs that I've taken deer (both muley and whitetail) with. I shoot copper clad PBs and whenever I've recovered a slug it appears to be just the base of the slug. Each time I've recovered one it looks like the base (you can see the nipple that the gasket attaches to) and there's usually about a 1/8 - 1/4 inch of slug left. The gasket is suppose to depart the slug, but I thought I'd read once that it really didn't affect the flight if it stayed attached. I think if you go back in the archives of this forum (2 years ago, I know Bluelk was still here) that we had this conversation. I've taken around a dozen deer with the PBs and they always seem to do an adequate job. I think I'll stick with them.

I recovered my 348 grain PB the other day and it had that much if not a little more expanision. I didnt recover the gasket tho, the bullet exploded on impact, putting a soft ball size hole in the ribs. I know thats hard too believe it was for me! i am deffinitly sticking with these bullets they are very accurate.

Re: Pic of my recovered powerbelt bullet

Here's another relative pic. 295gr Powerbelt using 85gr ff at 40yds. The bullet entered high on the shoulder and lodged against the skin on the opposite shoulder. The deer dropped in it's tracks, but I had to finish it off with a mercy shot.

The object to the left is a penny, to the right is the skirt, whitch detached about 10' from the muzzle.

Re: Pic of my recovered powerbelt bullet

Hey too pointer...what I was saying is that the site moved my pictures from one category to another thus breakiing the link to the forum. The pictures are still in the Photo Gallery, but since they were moved from General Hunting to wherever they don't appear in the thread.

Happy New Year!!

I shot the 295 powerbelts hollow point and they mushrum like that also even when i dont hit any bone i love it. I will usually see the deer go down right in its tracks because of the knock down power.
