Griz
I would have to say that it's either a porcupine or a beaver...
wtnhunt
OK, closer look. Definitely not a nutria or a turtle. Still think a member of the weasel family. Looks to have pretty heavy legs. Dont think it is a beaver, but could be. Still think it may be abadger or wolverine even though they are uncommon to that area. Too big and heavy in the body to be a smaller member of the weasel family like a fisher or marten.

Guest HoppeMan
Im seriously going to have to go with a turtle Yeah, I was thinking the same thing until I saw it's kind of furry. A cross between a turtle and a groundhog? LOL :D Take care, Nathan

Squirrelhunter91
Well.. I'm pretty sure there are badgers up there, uncommon but not unheard of. The porcupines are making a comeback and I do know about a porcupine den about 150 yards away. There are groundhogs up there, like I said, I got a pic of one in that plot the week before. I'll have my camera out there again this weekend so if it comes back out I hope to get another pic of it. May even sit on stand over there for a little bit. HuntnMa
porcupine would be my guess.......
buckee
porcupine would be my guess....... Yeah, I'm going to go with Ma here. It does have thick legs like a porky, and the hutchback too.
wtnhunt
Dont know Joe, could be a porcupine, but the head looks too tapered to me, porcupines, nutrias and beavers seem to have a more rounded or blunt looking head/nose. My oldest daughter has a mammals of North America field guide and it sure looks a lot like a badger looking at that book, and while rare, looks like the northern tip of New York may have a few of them around. Maybe you will get some pics of whatever it is again.
birddog
In my mind I can say it is 100% for sure not a mink, fisher, martin, wolverine or possum: It is either a beaver with the tail turned, a nutria (which should not be there), a ground hog/whistle pig, or a porcupine: My educated guess would be a ground hog/whistle pig, or a beaver: Just doesn't look right for a porcupine, but could be: Also don't think it is a turtle, as the legs look too long: Sit tight and you'll see it: Let us know what it is.....I really gotta think Beaver, just you can't see it's tail:
