That's the Gravel Pit Gobbler....except he's roosted by the open swamp tonight. Last few nights I heard birds fly up to roost below the gravel pit...no gobbling since last Thursday when I missed him. Well tonight there was a hen out in the field and when 8:15pm came, hadn't heard any birds roost below the pit. I stand up and wait for a few and hear a distant gobble..YES I say to myself. I go out to the field and move along the edge to where it curves into the woods, hoot on my owl call and GOBBLE! then a real owl hoots and GOBBLE, then I hoot and GOBBLE! He's somewhere down by that swamp... I can take a logging trail right down to there. Only thing is I'm trying to decide whether to set-up in the open swamp...now dryed I'm sure with this weather....or set-up on the logging trail which runs along the side of a small ridge...He sounds to be somewhere inbetween the two....

What do you think I should do? I know once I reach where the trail curves to the swamp, I think he's roosted below that somewhere where there is a hardwoods bottom, not too far.

I would do what oneida man suggested and set up as close as possible. If he is still with that hen it will most likely take a lot to get him in. This year me and a buddy were set up on a gobbler with 2 hens and he wouldent leave them. So we set up about 70 yards away before daylight and I used 6 different individual mouth calls to make it seem like there was a flock of hens and it worked, he left the 2 hens and my buddy layed the smack down on him. So if you have multiple calls, use em all. good luck
