muggs
Heard a breakdown of what the Yankees have agreed to pay Roger Clemens. It works out to be a little over 1 million per start, and over $100 per minute from June until the end of the season. All I can say is WOW! That's a pretty steep price to pay for a guy who's in his mid-40's and prone to leg and back problems. I've never wished injury on anyone, but just this one time, I wouldn't mind seeing ole' Rogey come up lame with a hamstring, ya know? Another important fact of this whole story that's been sweeped under the rug, is the blatant waste of money that was the demotion of Kei Igawa to SINGLE A!! This is a guy the Yankees spent close to 47 million to bring over from Japan. That's a steep price for a who's only going to be ringing up K's in Pawtucket or whatver small town USA he'll be toeing the rubber in. I'm not sure how much "Mr. Steinbrenner" donates to New York's homeless...but it should be at least 100 million per year.
MCH
I love the Igawa debacle and although I love Roger, I hope, somehow, he bombs. It would be a better world if everyone suddenly realized that you can't buy a World Series.
Ohiobucks
Is that all he gets?? He's worth it......c'mon, he's the ROCKET! Way out of hand IMO, not just this deal, or this sport, but the salaries of pro sport "athletes" in general. Been that way for way too long now. muggs
but the salaries of pro sport "athletes" in general. Been that way for way too long now. Makes you wonder if anything will ever change it, doesn't it? I mean, by 2025, will a power hitting shortstop be making 100 million per year, and signing long-term deals worth billions??? MCH
2025? What about next year? Doesn't Santana become a FA? If Clemens can get a 28 million for one year, Santana should be able to wrangle 30-35 from Steinbrenner. You can bet at the very least he commands 20 mil. per year for 7+. buckbuster11
I didnt hear about Igawa getting sent to A ball. LOL...wow. Thats incredible. I guess I'm not surprised about the kind of money they threw at Clemens. They need pitching and Clemens wants money. BTW---Brian Cashman might be the worst GM in baseball. If he's not, he's at least in the top 3.
muggs
It's going to be interesting to see what kind of money a big lefty like C.C. Sabathia is going to get. He's finally coming into his own as a 26 year old who's been in the Bigs since he was 19. Whatever the price the BoSox or Yanks give him...it will be more than the Indians can offer. What a shame. Baseball needs a salary cap. btw- John, Cashman is the worst. I'd like someone to add up all the millions that guy has blown with signing likes Wright, Pavano, etc... Guest Finn
Isn't it awesome the Roger Clemens decided to bless MLB with his presence this season? Favre didn't decide on retiring til just before the draft and people were ticked....this clown says he'll start midway through the season and only for whoever he deems worthy of his greatness. Break a leg, Roger
Tominator
I just want to say, and give props to muggs, because I believe he predicted this a couple weeks ago.
texastrophies
I think yall are being a little hard on Clemens. Wishing he gets hurt or has an injury? That ain't right. You can't blame him. Would any one of you turn down an offer like that? Didn't think so. Is it out of hand yes, but the greed belongs to the owners who think they can buy a winner. Not just the Yankees, but a lot of the teams.
Guest Finn
let me re-phrase that I don't hope he gets hurt...I hope he's very ineffective and not able to put everyone through this self-importance act next season. Maybe an ERA over 8 and double the number of losses as wins.

Just for the record, Farve and Clemens = same boat.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
with clemens, you'd hear about him every few days, or sometimes once a week, seemed like everytime you would turn on espn last year, all they would talk about is favre. and once a week you'd see something about a press conference and all it'd be is favre saying he hasn't decided yet. either way, i am sick of hearing about both of them...they are both past their prime, clemens will win what..10-12 games out of the 23-24 starts he'll have this year? yeah, thats worth 4 million a month or whatever he'll be getting... c_lou
What I really like it that the Yankees are hoping that Roger will give them a solid 5 or 6 innings, just like he did for Houston last year. That's all fine and dandy, but you have a SUCKY bullpen. Sure maybe Clemens can hold a team to 0 or 1 run, but then what, in comes Bob Shelledmylastouting to give up 5 or 6 runs. SOLID MOVE! Chrud
He would have been better off signing with the Brewers this year Exactly. The best team in the majors. Clemens would have been a good fit in the Brewers bull pen.

HUGE difference between Farve deciding to stay with the team he's played with for over 15 years a couple months after the season ends; compared to Clemens pimping himself to the highest bidder....not to mention he won't play until the season is 2 months old. toddyboman
And to go with that million a start. Clemens get to come and go as he pleases. Yankees travel elsewhere and he is not scheduled to start then he doesnt have to go. How do you spell it again t"I"mmate or is it te"I"mmate or something like. Well I do think the Rocket is one of the best pitchers I have ever watched but I would like to see him have a BAD 3/4 of a season.
