Guest HoppeMan
Well, my Dad and me are two VERY happy hunters this spring....My Dad scored his first turkey!!!! This was also his first year for Big Bird hunting, and we're both hooked. Might skip deer bow this year just to get more time into turkey hunting, they run the same dates. Well, anyway, I was about 10 yards up the hill behind my Dad, who was on the very edge of the woods. I was calling originally, but then Dad started using his mouth call so well I slacked off and stopped. Well, after a little while, I noticed he also slacked off calling, and I noticed two very fine looking gobblers about 50 yards away (Or so I though). They were slowly walking by, craning their heads, trying to spot this hen calling to them. My Dad sounded a louder yelp to draw their heads higher above the grass, and as soon as they lifted their heads, BOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A load of #4 12 gauge shot hit him. Well, he had dropped a BEAUTIFUL gobbler, with a 10 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. Later on we walke the distance off, and it turned out to be a 60-65 yard shot!!!!!! He said he never would have taken the shot had he known it was so far, cause, as I said, it looked like a 50 yarder, and the birds weren't coming any closer. But he sure was glad he did!!!! Thanks again to all who helped!!!! Special thanks to Al and Andy, who have helped make this first year for turkey for my Dad and me a dream come true!!!!! Take care, Nathan
