Newarcher
Wanna see my new dog? Here he is: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?&petid=8381099&mtf=1 We had been planning to buy a Boston Terrier puppy from a breeded but the more I looked, the less I liked the breeder. So I was back on the search and most searches were hitting the $600-$900 range for a puppy and even more. My wife found a Boston Terrier at a local shelter that was an owner turn in because he didn't work well with the owner's other dogs--Today was his first day of possible adoption. I called this morning and discussed the dog with the shelter (they had about 5-6 calls this morning, two from out of state). When he first saw me, he was scared to death. I guess if I was ripped from my home, stuffed in a cage, and injected every time someone came in the room, I would be scared too. He wasn't the only dog shaking. The worker got him out of the cage and he avoided me at first, hiding kind of between her legs. She took us outside and handed me the leash. He was still apprehensive of my trying to pet him a little bit but was happy for the walk. After he did his business, I took him to some fenced areas where I sat in the chair. I took him off the leash and ignored him. He sniffed around the perimeter of the cage smelling the other dog's scents. Finally, he came over and sat down beside my feet and stuck his paw up in the air to shake and looked at me with those big brown eyes. I found my dog. He already knows the sit and shake command (after he introduced himself, I checked that out). He is 1 1/2 years old according to the owner and his coat looks as if he was kept outside. The shelter said if we get him on a good diet, his coat should return to smooth and shiney. I tested him a little by GENTLY twisting on his ear...no, not hard....and GENTLY pinched between his toes. Not only did he not bite me, he didn't react at all. When I handed him back to the worker, he gave me an entusiastic rear wag and a sloppy kiss on the ear. He has a mostly black face, almost full white collar, two white socks on the front legs, and his back and rear are brindled which means it is black and brownish orange striped (think subtle Bengal tiger). He is getting fixed (requirement of the shelter) on Friday and I pick him up on Saturday with the kids. Total cost $75 and that included the neutering and a free vet visit for a checkup. Wish us luck! New
