blacktailslayer
I was wondering what kind of salt would everyone recommend? I hunt in the Oregon coast range for blacktail deer. I have tried just about every deer supplement, vitamin, mineral product on the market with no luck. I have heard from people around this area that blacktails don't normally like the block salt, but the elk love them. What kind of bag salt would everyone suggest I try using. dogdoc
Here is a link to a very popular homemade mineral mix: http://www.mosportsmen.com/hunting/deer/minrecipe.htm I have used it with good luck. When I'm lazy I just go to the local feed store and buy a red trace mineral block. Once I select the spot to put it I dig a small hole and bury about 1/2 of it with the other 1/2 sticking up from the hole. Within a couple of months it is usually dissolved and makes a great mineral lick. I have pics of a deer using an old lick that I have not refreshened in over a year. wtnhunt
Have used several from loose minerals mixed, to plain trace mineral salt blocks, to the expensive trophy rocks. Think the trophy rocks did seem to have the best draw, but cannot see continuing to spend that much on them. Back to using plain trace mineral blocks here.
