unioncountyslayer
I know we have beat this "New Forums" topic into the ground. And this will be my last post about it, but just wanted to share a few thoughts and opinions. I know it's not just me, because I have talked with other fellow forum members, but since all the changes, it just doesn't seem the same in here. I don't really know how to describe it, it just doesn't seem like the same place anymore. I have talked to several members that are so frustrated with the change that they are considering stepping away from the forums. I know I will still visit from time to time, but I know personally since the changes I have not logged on nearly as much as I use to. I guess some of the things that I can't get use to are: Not as easy to post pics, I don't see which of my buddies are logged in when I log in, there are always 100,000 people logged on so it's hard to know who is really logged in. Sorry again for bringing this back up but I think sometimes change is just plain bad. I hate to lose great members over something like this, but it has been a very frustrating process. Ok, my rant is over, you won't hear another peep out of me.
buckee
You're not alone in your frustration. Us mods are frustrated as well, because there are a lot of things we can't do, that we used to be able to do, just to help out members, especially when it comes to helping them with their profiles etc. The change was/is hard on all of us, because none of us were expecting it. There are some pretty cool new features, like uploading attachments right directly from your PC, instead of having to host a picture all the time, but there is a lot of redundant stuff too, that we will probably never use or have a use for.(I don't know) The who's online feature is a real biggy, that needs to be fixed yesterday. It's an important feature in every good forum out there for communicating with your friends online, and it's a great moderating tool as well. I am still hopeful that all these little/big quirks will get ironed out, but it's been a slow go so far. I've noticed the drop in participation too, and it's upsetting. I'm trying real hard to remain positive about the new board, but until things are running smoothly, without all of these unfriendly quirks, it's a real problem. Lets all try to make the best of it for now, and hope that the webmaster hasn't skipped town...LOL;) One feature that has really been bugging me also, that hasn't even been discussed yet, is the inability to copy and paste, while making a new post (within the post itself) You can copy from outside sources, and paste, but try to copy a line in the post to duplicate it, and there is no copy feature there. It comes in handy when making long posts and rearranging things. It's frustrating, but I'm trying to be patient.
Tominator
No doubt about it, number of posts are down, and once regular members don't post much anymore. Having said that, I must say I'm getting used to the new features. There are still little quirks that irk me, but I think I'll adapt. Hang in there, this will be better in the long haul. too_pointer
I don't know how many other sites that our members visit, but the big majority of them already are using the same type of program that R.T. just went too. We were actually behind the times. It will get easier to use, and this is coming from a pc illiterate. too_
arrow32
I have been tossing around leaving for a few days now. Not due to the changes tho. Just at a point in life where I feel I need to focus on whats in front of me. I feel led to go into the military and its tearing me apart not sure why. Heck anymore if Im on here twice a week its good. I just made a post on my farewell but couldn't do it I just can't leave this family. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
i to am a bit disappointed in the lack of activity. but i don't really know if that is because of the new format, or maybe it is just that time of the offseason where it gets slow...the waeather getting nicer, turkey season going on...that could be part of it...as mentioned there are a few things that still need to be fixed, but like Chris (Tominator) i am getting used to the new format...the only thing that really bothered me were all the little things going wrong at the begining. hopefully as time goes on peopel will start showing back up and giving this new format another shot. LifeNRA
Hey I been banging my head since the change! I cant even change my avatar back to the turkey! Even tho its 80x80! Now the avatar police have to have a size limit! But since Archery Talk has the same formatte, I know that the avatar size limit can be changed. So Ill just keep banging my head until I can put what I had on here! LOL!
Shaun_300
I'm not the biggest fan of it either, I liked the old forums MUCH better. Sure do miss them. I haven't been posting nearly as much as I used to, not because I'm meaning to, but sometimes these new forums frustrate me. I find that sometimes you'll click on a sub-forum, and all the threads will be the same as you last visited, in the same order like no one else has posted. You'll have to hit the refresh in order to see the new threads. That really irked me but it seems like it's not happening anymore thankfully. NS whitetail
I am getting pretty used to the new look. However, I do blame the low activity on the change. I am sure that every year this time since I have been here has been much busier than now. Hopefully things will all get worked out and most will get used to it and get back to business. Tom2008
I feel the exact same way. The things that hurts me the most is the amount of pictures we can post and the picture post isn't working to well for me either. I thoguht that we had the time we last logged in and the number of members all fixed, but then I came back in one day and it was back to everyone. I've noticed a significant number of people not around as much anymore and the posts have gone down a lot. I miss the old realtree a lot, but I won't leave here because of the change. This my home page and only other forum. I've talked to many great people on here and wouldn't go a day without it.

I realize we can still do it, but I'm with you. Webmaster, bring back Copy and Paste!!!
toddyboman
Hhhhmmmmmm.... I must be alone but I really am not having much problem with the new forum. And actually like it better. As for the picture post for me it seems to be the exact same. But I use photobucket and all i have to do is copy and paste. Speaking of copy and paste remember the windows short but keys for copy and paste this may help some. To copy select what ever you want to copy and then hold the control but and the "c" button. Then to paste just hold the control button and the "v" button. Now the whos online that is aggrevating because it shows EVERYONE is online when we know they are not. And the avatar is a bit weird but that just a small thing we know each other by our names so oh well. I do agree that the forum is not as active as normal but I have to agree some of that is due to change in the season. Hopefully most of the bugs will be worked out soon. Are the realtree web folks having trouble fixing the problems?? If so can't they contact someone for help since many other websites use this same software... stevebeilgard
actually, i think most of the slowdown is the summer months. it happens every year about this time.
Guest Finn
I hope regulars didn't bail out because of the format. For me, the only thing that's a problem is the "who's online" feature. I used that alot. Think/hope its the time of year that is affecting the low numbers. Like Steve said, this seems to happen every spring. Doc
Actually, I don't even use most of the features that people are complaining about, so the software change has little impact on me. As long as it isn't buggy or too slow, it really doesn't impair my ability to read threads or post replies. So for the most part it is a non-issue for me. However, that said, I will say that anything that frustrates or discourages participation is bad for my continued enjoyment of this forum. So, if the software bugs people to the point where they are refusing to participate, that does effect me. Now, I understand that springtime is a time when all of these hunting forums slow down. However, I think it has been correctly noted that this year's slowdown is significantly more pronounced that in years past. So, it looks like people may have it pegged right that the software is causing some kind of additional problem for participation, unless there is something else going on that I am not aware of. By the way, being a user of the old stone-age dial-up internet service, I am very sensitive to "slowness issues". I will say that getting to where I am actually able to log on with my username and password is a painfully slow process compared to the lightning fast way it used to load. In fact, the old software was amazingly fast when compared to any other software on other forums. That was one thing that I really appreciated on the Realtree forums. By the way, just to not be completely negative, the one new feature that I find great is the post preview pop-up that is operated by passing the mouse over the thread in the index. That saves me a lot of time in figuring out whether a thread is interesting enough to actually open up. That one feature sure does make up for a lot of other features that we may have lost. Jeramie
Thus far Im annoyed by the changes. Its not nearly as user friendly and Im pretty computer savvy. I cant imagine how some are lost. Even using the emotion icons isn't simple. Pain, pain, pain. Ive noticed the activity has cut way, way back. Sometimes the lounge goes several hours without a ton of responses. Summer or not that isn't typical. Its just simply not as easy (use friendly) as the old format. Im a long timer and will never quit but it sure isn't as easy to stumble around in...... Ohiobucks
Hhhhmmmmmm.... I must be alone but I really am not having much problem with the new forum. And actually like it better. You're not alone, I really like the new format. There are always going to be things people don't care for with any change, but I think most will get used to it and soon it will be no problems whatsoever. That goes for the users and the administrators. There had to have been driving reasons to make the big change on the admins end, maybe the old format was a big headache to them? Anyway, I like the new forums and will continue to visit here as I normally do.

birddog
I have been back a few times and it seems that I have not taken the time to learn the new forum: When I only have a few minutes to check in a few times a day, I don't have time to deal with "stuff" not working or being where I am used to: This used to be my favorite site, but I just guess it's tough to teach an old birddog a new trick :-) I'll keep stopping by and try to learn, as you guys/gals are the best out there for info and the "family feel" of a website. wtnhunt
This is a slow time of the year anyways Mark. It does seem some members are not as frequent, but it will pick back up. Far as the changes in ease of use, I have gotten to really like them. Once the kinks are all ironed out think they will be a lot better than what we had before. Chrud
I hope regulars didn't bail out because of the format. Me too. I understand why some people are frustrated, but just because you aren't used to, or don't like the format of the forum isn't a good reason to up and leave all the friendships you've made on here. You can't tell me that all the people who have, or are thinking about leaving this forum registered a a while back because they liked the old format. The "Who's Online" needs fixing. The other thing I've been confused about is the signatures. I had a signauture linked from another forum. When that forum switched, I had to relink it, but it says it's over the size limit. The new picture I tried linking is the same as before, only a little smaller. I see people with pictures in their sigs much bigger than the 110 X 55 pixel image I tried linking, but I'm over the byte limit. I guess I'm a little confused there. Texan_Til_I_Die
My participation has been down a bit, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the functionality of the site. I tend to get involved more in the "serious" discussions of hunting techniques, wildlife and land management, ethics, politics, etc. I don't find myself wanting to engage much in the "name that tune" or "did you see the latest movie" or "my girlfriend just left me for no reason" type threads. And lately, those types of threads seem to dominate the discussions.

Yeah, those limits on everything have to go. All of them were set on a default setting when they first made the switch-over, and are totally NOT user friendly. User friendly is where it's at. No matter what the format, or program, if it ain't user friendly, it ain't worth much.

Guest Andrea
To be honest............the old photo post on RT stunk. I quit using it. Now I stick with Photobucket and just click and paste. Simple. The Who's Online thing sure needs to be fixed though.
