too_pointer
I was just rereading your rifle bore cleaning post, and I saw you just mentioned Butch's Bore Shine for powder fouling only. I have some and have been using it for copper fouling , it is not good in your opinion for copper? too_pointer
AJ
Re: AJ While BBS does remove some copper fouling, I have found it will not remove all of the fouling. I have had good results in a custom barrel that has been hand lapped but in factory barrels (that most shooters use) it does not remove enough. A simple test is to use BBS in a bore and when you think it is clean, take a patch soaked with Sweets on a plastic jag and see what else comes out. It may suprise you to find whats left in the grooves. If a shooter stays up on the copper fouling, it will work sufficiently. The majority of shooters that just brush and patch with a powder solvent will need the extra copper eating ability of a good copper solvent. too_pointer
Re: AJ Thanks AJ, I guess I will buy some Sweets. I appreciate someone who has used different brands. Reading the Butch's info on the bottle would leave you to believe it gets rid of everything and is used by all the profesionals LOL. I should write them and tell them they didn't get the right opinion from the right guy thanks too_
AJ
Re: AJ They do have the praise of the custom barrel makers. Just check out their web site. All the big dog aftermarket barrel makers like BBS. Again, this is not a hammer forged production barrel offered by Remchestger. They are speaking the truth, just not all of the truth. AJ
Re: AJ Shooter's Choice Copper Remover is good stuff. Barnes CR-10 is also good stuff. You can tell the copper solvents as they have a harsh amonia smell. Amonia is what reacts with the copper.
