toddyboman
Well I had to get a class "E" drivers license today. A Missouri chauffeurs license. Anyways the lady that was doing my paperwork ask if I wanted to be an organ donor... My response was sure. I won't need them. She said I would be surprised how many people do not want to be an organ donor. Kinda shocking to me. But what do you guys do/think? Yes or no? Newarcher
There is a tired, yet very funny joke that would probably get me banned for life so I will just say that I have been one since I was driving... A lot of people don't like to face mortality and my wife, having worked in a trauma center, has witnessed the decision to stop trying to save the person and begin harvesting the organs. Hopefully, they tried everything before stopping. New

Guest Andrea
Been one ever since I could drive. My husband's family doesn't believe in it. Simply because of a relative's very very bad experience with it. The hospital kept his cousin alive on a ventilator for days while they did whatever and then harvested the needed organs. THEN...the hospital charged the grieving parents a horrendous amount of money for keeping him alive long enough to take the organs. I didn't know my husband when all of that happened. And I just couldn't believe they didn't hire an attorney and sue the hospital. I'd never heard of such a thing happening. But I will always be an organ donor. Jeramie
Yes and No... We watched a show several years ago about stuff like Andrea is talking about. It said to never sign. It said to in fact tell a close relative, in most cases husband/ wife and to be sure and tell anyone that may dispute that. I know it takes away certain situations where the organs can be used (such as car wrecks) but according to the documentary, there were cases were a patient was pretty much allowed to die. They couldn't prove it was for organ harvesting but that was where all the fingers were pointing. If it ever came to that id want my wife to OK it, not base it off of someone Else's judgment. But then again ill be walking the streets of Glory, so it pretty much doesnt matter to me if someone needs something from this old home.... At that point I do not need them so it wouldnt matter to me. But I would hate for the hospital to charge my family a fat bill just to keep me alive to harvest my organs. Very interesting stuff. Turkeygirl
I am one. No question when I got my driver's license. Can't take em' to heaven and besides they'd help someone else. Look at what God gave up...His Son...so giving up your organs if your dead seems so minor in comparison.
Bachflock
Can't say I'm a flat out yes. It should be a very personal and well thought through decision. I believe the family can choose to donate or not for the individual so its best to make your wishes known.

Newarcher
And that's the very reason why I'm not a donor. Dude, you worry too much! First, they didn't stop trying because the person was a donor, they stopped because the person was dead. When there was no brain activity or heart activity, they had the nurse go ask if the person was a donor. Then they started harvesting the organs. Not the other way around. The doctors tried everything they could...twice...to save the person. If you want to donate but are afraid of them stopping trying too early, then tell your family you want to be a donor. Once you are truly dead, they will ask if you wanted to be an organ donor and then your family can tell them. I assure you that you won't wake up after having your liver removed and they won't kill you for your organs nor stop trying. New
