Hey GM Mechanics???

Today my father and I are traveling down the mountain from turkey hunting the morning. I am in 4 wheel low, allowing the compression of the motor to do its job while going down. As I get to a large boulder, I apply the brake as I always have while going over this large rock. All of a sudden the engine just died! I said uh-oh! It started again just fine! It seemed like the engine just stalled out, never did this before. Any ideas why this occurred???

Could have been just a slight air bubble in the fuel line John, I wouldn't let it bother ya. Going down a mountain would cause the fuel do do some sloshin' around in the tank obviously, could have just caused a little bubble if the level below the fuel pump was too low and caused it to fart out on ya. I wouldn't be too worried. ;)

Thats what I said to my father! LOL! But what got me was the "Check Engine" light came on! We both thought, oh nooooooo we were stuck in the mountain! LOL! Would having a full tank of gas help this?

Thanks Shaun!!!

No worries about the check engine light, they come on in every vehicle when the ignition is on and the engine is off. So if the engine stalled out, the light will come on for sure. Doesn't mean there's a problem though. :D;)

And yes, a full tank would probably lessen the chances of that happening to ya.

shaun is probably right. low fuel could cause this to happen. i was wondering with the back pressure from the truck going down a grade if it didnt squew the maf sensor or map sensor when he hit the brakes with the sudden change in vacume

Yep, good point Mirage, could have been the issue as well. ;)

Also thank you very much for the compliments, any time folks, I don't mind at all! :D

John, Shaun is probably right, and kind of funny this comes up. Just last week, we had an issue I was talking with Shaun about on our yukon where it died on us and I thought it might be fuel pump related. Think we have come to the conclusion that our issue is most likely not the pump, but is some trash in the tank where when the fuel level gets too low, around a 1/4 tank it acts up, our solution to the problem is to keep the tank level at half a tank or above. No question Shaun is a lot of help on these issues. Not to hijack your thread, but sounds like this may be turning into a Shaun appreciation thread :D.

Thanks Shaun again for all the advice and help here.
