turkey legs, how to!!!

OK, I know that you moderators will move this, however, please leave the post so that people actually see the question.

What is the best way to (cook) fix those tough tukeys legs. I just hate to waste any part of the bird, however, those things are so tough and stringy.

Thanks moderators and those who answer.

Good luck to all

LOL! Good question... this year was the first year I'd ever hunted turkey. I was blessed enough to bag one (a jake). I was pretty excited to invite my dad and stepmom down for a roasted wild turkey as he had never had, nor hunted, wild turkey either. Not knowing the difference I let my two youngest kids (8 and 6) have the drumstick - they LOVE the drumstick off a domestic. What a sight!! Man did I get the dirty looks from them.

Next time, however, I'll likely braise them - which means to quickly brown them in a very hot pan then put them in a baking dish with some sort of liquid (sauce/broth/etc) and slow cook them until tender. Given the amount of meat on them I'd hate to just toss them - like I've seen suggested on other forums. Another option would be to boil them for stock and broth and make a good tasting gravy or soup/stew out of the results.

Hope that helps...

Crock pot.....then once they are cooked good, take out all the sinews, aka flat bones....then make soup, or homemade dumplings....yummy............the only way to enjoy them is the crockpot in my opinion............al

I agree wholeheartedly. I put them in a crockpot with four chicken buillion cubes and cover them with water. Leave the crockpot on low at least overnight. Next morning fish them out and pull the bones and sinews.

Cut up the meat for dumplings or add it to yellow saffron rice. :)

Yo dog! I take my legs and thighs and make jerky out of the seperated meat.gives you more thoughts about the hunt while you're knawing on it.take care,"one of the original last minute men"

Thats a GREAT idea! I'll have to give it a try.

Hi-Mountain Seasonings actually makes a brine for turkey jerky. I am going to try some this year.
