NiteRunner
I already posted this in the Women Hunters section, But I'm darn proud of this Gobbler so here's another post! ;D A Different Picture too! lol Anything and Everything that could go wrong did this season, from missed shots, coyotes, henned up birds, call shy, over calling, you name it! Hopefully this bird will mean a better 2008 season though. This is also what my Dad and I think to be the same gobbler that we called in to 20-30 yards last week but I couldn't get a shot through a wall of saplings he was strutting behind. We Started off hunting this bird in the morning but he chose to go to a real Hen besides coming to a Friends Mouth Call. He quit Gobbling and we decided it was time to go to another spot where hopefully they were gobbling. We did and sure enough there was one gobbling. We tried to get on him but he went away from the call and finally shut up on us. So we got back in the truck and were driving past the spot we were hunting earlier and guess who was out in the field?! Yep that darn bird we were hunting earlier. So my Dad dropped me and our Friend off and we took off getting around to this bird. No sooner did I get my face mask on did he gobble not 75 yards away! He's got a Darn Good Gobble on him too! We were able to get to a Wood Pile and hide behind it. I had a nice rest on it, but if the bird came around us to the right side I would have to swing the gun around it and use my friend as a shooting rest if need be. So as it played out my friend called to him and he responded straight out in front of us. The next time he gobbles however is to the right more and really Close! I slowly moved that gun up and over to the right and over top my friend back as he's hunched over so I can shoot and clicked the safety off. Seconds later here's the bird!! Coming off a slight rise, Big Red Jelly Headed Bird too! He's at 20 Yards and moving slowing to the right looking around...I let him have it!! After not getting one last year this was the best!! When I was standing over this bird my legs were shaking 100mph, or so it looked!! It Was Awesome! 5" 1/2" Beard - Frozen/Broken Off 16 1/2 Pounds 1" Spurs This is Him,
