Bizarre Find!

I've been shed hunting for a long time now, but experienced a first last week when I took Tanner over to the Clearwater Game Range to look for antlers when it opened up to the public. We struck out in the morning in my usual honey hole - gotta believe people are getting on ther illegally and cleaing the place out - that really bums me out! So we went down to the bunchgrass prairie and rolling foothills to look for raghorn antlers, as that is where many of them hang out. I know the area had been scoured already that morning as there were people everywhere, but we decided to take the .22 for a walk and try to shoot some gophers and maybe stumble onto an antler.

About 30 minutes into the hike we noticed a couple deer bedded under one of the few trees scattered across the grassland, so we decided to test our skills by putting a stock on them to see if maybe they were bucks. This is where it gets bizarre! We had a nice knob between us and the deer so the plan was to peek over the knob and the deer would be right there. Well, just before peeking over the knob, we walked beneathe a small tree that had the ground underneathe it all torn up and disturbed.....just then Tanner reaches down and picks up a spike elk antler from this disturbed area and quickly notices another just two feet away. We high-fived as these were his first ever elk antlers and then peeked at the deer - all does. We then turned around and Tanner noticed something else in the dirt....yep, another spike antler...just then he notices yet another just 2 feet away....and yep a 5th was laying right there too!! We were stunned to find 5 antlers in a 10 square foot area. I then looked about 10 yards away and here lies a raghorn 6-point! Six antlers within 10 yards of each other all found within 2 minutes of each other!! All I can think is that this small area is a natural mineral lick. Anyway, pretty cool find for dad and son to share in! Sorry for the long story. Mark

Thats neat! You had an experince sorta like mine this year. In Febuary I had found 4 fresh whitetail antlers all within roughly 15 yards of each other! Can't get better than that! :D
