Doc
Man, this isn't funny anymore! The participation in these forums is almost dropping to zero. What the heck is going on here? I understand that participation drops some this time of year, but this is getting ridiculous. It's hardly worth logging in anymore. wtnhunt
This room sees a huge drop this time of the year, the forums in general are usually slower this time of the year too. It will pick back up Doc, look at the turkey room, that is where most of the attention seems to be right now.

Doc
Look, I have been here for quite a few years and have gone through quite a few spring seasons with this forum. And, I will admit that participation always slows at this time of year. But, I have never seen it this barren of participation. Whether the season is on or near or not, there has always been some conversation about hunting going on here. Practice, preparation, observations, season results, plans, or just plain questions about hunting and equipment are all normal topics that occur at all times of the year. I can't remember a single year when the participation level has gotten this low. Something is different. Doc
Ravin R10 man
Its the new forums...it was a real shocker, and I didnt feel like visiting here anymore either. The number one complaint ive heard was you cant see who is online and what everybody is looking at..usually the new or hot post.. another thing is you can read a post with your curser and not even click onto it, thus reducing the number of views/reponses it will receive
Buckslayer
Guys I'll admit to being on only a couple of times each week over the last two months... Work has been killin me, and with the weather finally turned for good, I'm out and aboooot as much as possible fishing and turkey hunting, etc. As soon as midsummer comes along, everyone's deer addictions will have them coming back. I mean I'm already getting trail cam pics of bucks in velvet so it won't take long now, be patient grasshopper!

I felt that way too but I still come in here about the same amount of time that I've come in the past. During turkey season I've spent most of my time turkey hunting or in the turkey room when I wasn't taking care of personal stuff. I've tried to respond to just about every post in the turkey room but I'm sure I've missed a few. Turkey season is winding down in the northern states now and with the spring time weather people should be enjoying it outdoors more. I'll admit I am right now too because it won't be long before its too darn hot to be outside except during the early morning hours.
Chrud
Its the new forums I wouldn't say that. The Deer Hunting Room has always been very slow during the spring and early summer. There is a lot of activity in the Turkey Hunting Room, since that is the main hunting season right now.
Texan_Til_I_Die
You guys that use a firearm to hunt deer are all dirty scumbags! You guys that hunt around feeders are all worhtless louts! You guys that use crossbows are all weenies! You guys that use compound bows are all cheaters! You guys that hunt deer with dogs are all toothless rednecks! Hunting deer on any piece of property under 1000 acres should be outlawed! Only 150+ class bucks should be legal! buckee
LOL @ Bart and Tex To be honest, I have noticed the lack of participation since the new forums poped up too. It was pretty busy for a few days there (lot's of complaints) and then "POOF", a lot of folks just disappeared. I'm pretty sure (hope) things will pick back up again once we get all the bugs out of this program, such as character limits in PM's and post's etc., and the chat up and running again. Until then, I guess us steady eddies will have to just keep talkin

wtnhunt
Activity in this room and the bowhunting room both generally will usually pick up considerably later on in the summer. More excitement over pics from trail cams of potential deer, more deer sightings, questions on and pics of potential setups, questions on equipment and etc. get more conversation going and overall there will generally be a lot more traffic in this room towards the end of summer as it gets closer to fall. Seems every year, or at least the last couple of years this conversation comes up in here.

As you can see I'm not a huge poster. I've been a member for 7 years and only have about 600 posts, not I'm really not a fan yet of the new setup. Doc
Trust me when deer season comes around it will be packed and if you go to the turkey post you might find a few talking about fall turkey hunting. That's may be true, but when my forum activity stops being a part of my normal daily or weekly activity because of this "temporary shut-down", I'm not so sure that I'll be back. When I came in this morning, there were only two topics that had new activity since I was in yesterday, and this is one of them. Eventually, it can get to the point where its not even worth the time to access the forum. If that goes on until next fall, there's a pretty good chance that other activities will have replaced my forum participation. If this is indeed becoming a part time forum, I believe that in the long haul, participation even in the fall will suffer. I'm not sure just what the problem is, and that's why I started this thread. But I'm very sure that even though we traditionally see a drop-off in activity this time of year, the lack of participation is unusually abrupt and exaggerated this year. I'm just curious as to why this year is so much more pronounce than other years, and is there something simple that can be done to reverse it a bit. wtnhunt
Might take advantage of the slow time in here to explore other rooms and features in this forum and the RT website. Just to see, I looked at your activity last year around this time, click on your user name and then click on look at users posts. Go to page 14 and 15 and you will see that last year you had around 22 posts all together for May last year, then only 5 or 6 in June. Of those several were on an AR topic, and most of those posts were not in this room. Here is a link if you want to go directly to what I am talking about http://www.realtree.com/forums/search.php?searchid=5204&pp=25&page=
SaskMan
I'm another one who hasn't chimed in much but agree with Martin, I honestly really dislike the forum look and cannot even access it at home on my dial up connection. Plus..it is the slow season for deer, I'm just patiently waiting..until late Aug to locate a big one...and I'll stay shut up about it then too. lol

But at any rate, I'll take your word for my activity levels. And yes, it is true that we all tend to slow down at this time of year, but this level of participation this spring is ridiculous even when you consider that usual trend. In fact there really is something wrong when one of the few threads going is about the fact that there are so few threads going....lol. Of course this trend seems to feed on itself. As topics get more and more scarce, the replies and other new topics spawned get more scarce. Anyways, I find this whole general trend to be a bit distressing. If it doesn't bother anyone else, then so be it. I just hope that the trend doesn't continue on into the traditionally more active times of the year. wtnhunt
I tried the link and it didn't work for me. Not sure what happened with it, not working for me anymore either. Maybe since the data changed on your posts it is not finding matches for that link, not sure. Anyways, you could also click over you own user name and then click on look at users posts and then look at the pages I mentioned and also at your current. Like said last year for May, was like 20 some posts, from what I can tell in the last 4 weeks you have had over 40 posts this year. So your actual activity while it seems slow is actually up from last year even if quite a bit of it may be in a post about activity being down . My perspective, and I have been around here for a little while too, is that it is normal what we are seeing right now and it will by all means pick up, just give it time and give the new forums and the people working on getting this stuff straight a fair chance to get it right. ruttinbuc
Yes, the deer hunting room does seem rather slow. The bowhunting room does also. Maybe the hype is losing out to substance. Most times the only thing new in the topic columns is "What's New" I don't care for the new format either, but I do stop in now and then. KyBucks
Well, I check in from time to time, but I'm covered up with work and honey do's, by the time July rolls around I'll be moving stands and putting up the cameras. It is a slow time for most deer hunting forums, but business will pick up before we know it.
