Cmarti
I buried this skull in November, and dug it up Memorial day. It cleaned up easy with a gentle power wash. I wiped down with a degreaser and painted with a satin finish, not glossThis was by far the easiest method I have tried, but it smelled as bad a boiling when dug up, and you have to wait 6 months for the results. Tominator
Cool. How did you keep the local dogs, cats, skunks, coons, etc. off of it while it was buried?

Taped garbage bags around the antlers, and buried up to the antler base. Cover with large plastic storage tub with a cement block on top. toddyboman
Looks good! How much picking did you have to do after you dug it up? Usually boil mine, the smell is always yummy. Actually I have found that the sooner you do it the better it is.

I have less than 1 hour of work in this skull, it justs takes 6 months to get that 1/2 hour in. The plaque takes more work, but doesn't smell as bad....... RTF
Long wait and risky, but whatever works for you. Good job.
Cmarti
Long wait and risky, but whatever works for you. Good job. Agreed. I found a local beetle colony and for 40$ will go that route if it does not warrant a shoulder mount next time.
Tom2008
That is a sweet buck and it looks like that worked out really nice for you. I usually just boil my skulls, but I always have trouble with the nose bones and I accidently end up breaking them off. I might give this a try for my next one. Guest Finn
That looks great. For $40, you got the beetles or your left your horns with him?
