Hey Tech Guys... DSL Question????

I just got a phone call from my telephone company. I have a network card and a wireless network card for my laptop.

My plan was just to buy a wireless router and I could plug it up (direct or wireless). My phone company thinks I need a DSL modem too? Is that right? Do I need a Modem and a router?

Some of your high end routers like Cisco will allow you to use a DSL module in them and negate the need for a DSL modem, but that would be cost prohibitive for your typical home user. In other words, yes, you'll need two separate devices. The line will plug into one side of the DSL modem, then your router will plug into the other side.

Actually Im going to call around and find out what brand and model they use. I have a friend that works for the company and he will tell me what I need. I bet I can get it cheaper.

Im sure I can program it but they do all of the initial setup. They drop the line and get everything running so all I have to do is supply the hardware.

New Question:

Do they make a wireless modem that operates like the router? I looked up modems on EBAY and found a lot with external antennas. They hard the hard plug in the back too. That would eliminate my need for a router.

Pretty sure there is something like what you are looking for available Jeramie, not sure how much they run though. I know there are router/modem combos, seems like wal mart carries one of them for around $100.
