My family owns 6 acres of land that is mostly field that adjoins to 26 acres of woods on the left 12 acres on the right and about 500 acres on the other side of the 2 lane road. That being said we haven't seen any deer sign in at least a month maybe 2 which is unusual!!! for us. Today broke that streak saw a nice young buck in good physical condition had about 3 inch velvet growing. Is that good for this time of year? The cool thing is I believe this is one of the fawns from last year that I played around with see it's mother was killed fairly early on (june 2006) and being young I wanted to see how close I could get I actually fed it some high grass last year!! But then It tagged along with another doe and got smarter never came that close again until now this deer let me get within 5 ft thats Why I hope/think it is the same one.

Sorry for it not having anything to do with bows ;) just happy to see a deer:)

Seems to be a trend here that we see a week or two with a slowdown in activity this time of year on our property. Seems the only explanation I can figure is that does use areas nearby for fawning, and think they kind of keep where it is safe down in the thickest part of the river bottoms right before the fawns are born and dont venture too far off until the fawns can get around fairly well. Buck activity seems to also be sporadic here this time of the year. An abundance of food in the woods, they can browse and stay hidden.

Far as 3 inches of growth, that for a yearling is probably right on track.
