Wild Boar Hunting

I am getting kind of curious about hunting wild boars (archery), and was wondering where is a good place that is affordable that I would have a really good chance of filling a tag? I do not want a game farm, I just mean a place where they are over run with wild boars.

Another question is...did any of you guys see the video of Tred Barta killing the wild boar with a knife? Is that even legal?? At first I thought, man that just doesn't seem right...but then the more I thought about it, I guess it is not a whole lot different than using an arrow. It still does seem more brutal though. I just thought it would really get the PETA people up in arms since it was shown on TV.

I happened to see that episode and I'm sure it is legal. Tred Barta would not do something illegal on television. It was a really crazy thing to do though.

Ya, I guess I realize it is legal in whatever state he was in...I guess I was more asking is it legal everywhere you can hunt hogs. I got mixed feelings about it, but I am an adrenalin junkie, and thought..."my God, that must really be scary".

Swamphunter....I can attest that it is legal in alot of states in the South. I know alot of guys back around my home town in Northeast Mississippi that hunt hogs alot and one of their favorites is to let the dogs run them then bay them. When the ole hog is at bay you ease in on him and cut him.

Not for me, but they love it.

As far as a good place to hunt them. There are several good places in TN and GA. I know there are alot of hogs in TX as well. Not sure how far you are wanting to go or what kind of money you are looking to spend. The hunts in TN are pretty reasonable but it would cost you to get down in this part of the world....LOL!

not to change the original subject but barta is probably the worst example of a responsible hunter i have seen.

I agree...can't stand the guy. Over the edge, a know-it-all, and a show-off in my opinion. I was just stating that I had seen him doing that and had mixed feelings about it.

i agree!!

if your looking to do free range hog hunting...California might be a good place to look..or Texas where the high fence is over 20,000 acers.

Anywhere in Texas and or Oklahoma!

Hogs all over southern Oklahoma and Texas. Hunts will be CHEAP as they are considered a nuisance. There are no limits or restriction of Ferrel hogs.

You can kill one with a #2 pencil if you're bad enough... :p

A lot of large deer ranches offer (Unfenced) hunts during the off season. You'll have to pay for accommodations but a lot of times they let you hunt hogs for literally dollars a day.

Ken.. my dad and I hooked up with a soldier two years ago thru the NAHC BB.. He was in Iraq at the time. He was originally from Upstate NY, but moved to Savannah, GA to live on the Fort Stewart Army Base. Needless to say, we met him in person in March 2006, hunted with him in November 2006 and we have become pretty close friends. He recently deployed back to Iraq for his final tour and will be back in the Spring of 2009. Anyway.. My point in telling you all this is that he kills ALOT of hogs down there every year. We plan to go down there and hunt for hogs with him sometime in September 2009. Maybe if you haven't gone on a hunt by then, you could possibly tag along with us.
