muggs
...his weak upper-body. Not that I think how a kid performs on a benchpress will have much, if anything, to do with his sucess in the NBA, but Kevin Durant was the ONLY NBA prospect who could not put up 185 lbs. at least once. For someone who's 6'11" that's beyond pathetic. Should be fun watching him get tossed around by small forwards all year. Just for the record, this solidifies my feeling that Kevin Durant does not have a postion in the NBA. To tall for the 2, and too weak for any forward position. He better hope he's fast enough to play shooting guard, because that's the only place I see him being able to play without getting out-muscled. Or maybe he can talk to Barry Bonds' agent. buckbuster11
He's going to struggle at first, but he can still score. Garnett was as skiny as a pencil too when he first got in. Durant will pack on some muscle via NBA training or roids or both and he'll be fine.

MCH
Oh yeah, I forgot, he's the next Garnett. He'll be fine. Wish you would take a moment....step back....and apply that same logic to your Oden infatuation.
toddyboman
I was wonder how long it was going to take for you to post this. All the drafter players come in smaller then they get roided, I mean beefed up by NBA trainers.
muggs
Wish you would take a moment....step back....and apply that same logic to your Oden infatuation. Kev, thank you for pointing out the flaw in your and pretty much every other one of my "Oden detractors" perception of reality. What I said was "a big man will win you a championship. Look at Hakeem, Shaq, Russell, Kareem, Duncan etc..." Thus, pointing out the importance of a big man and how it relates to winning. What John does is say things like "have you seen him play? he's the next Garnett" oooorrrrrrrrr "Garnett was as skiny as a pencil too when he first got in. Durant will pack on some muscle" Now, to you, who sounds like they're making a coorelation and who sounds like they're making a comparison??? Try to stay with me bud, meanwhile, I'll lay off the intellectual gas pedal and let you catch up.
buckbuster11
DB in one sentence you accuse me of saying Durant is the next Garnett, and in the very sentence before that you are the one comparing Oden to Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, Duncan, and Russell. Nice work. BTW--I am comparing body sizes between Durant and Garnett not game. Get the quotes right and stop making crap up.
toddyboman
"a big man will win you a championship. Hey dont forget Bill Cartwright, Will Purdue, Bill Wellington those big men won several championships. What about Ewing where does he fit in.. muggs
John...there's this guy, Webster something or other. Well anyway, in an attempt to turn a profit, he put out this thing called a dictionary a while back. Do yourself a favor, find one, and then go look up "comparison" and "correlation" (hint: they'll both be found under the "C" section). Read the definitions of both, than apply them to this conversation.
buckbuster11
Funny you should bring up Webster. He also came up with this term "hipocrisy". It applies to situations when someone rips someone for something they have said, and then turn around and say the very same thing themselves, usually to benefit themselves in an argument. Can't seem to remember his name.... Shaq and Duncan have ALWAYS had lots of help.

Again, I'll waste more of my valuable time dumbing myself down so you "get it" Parnelli. If I said "Oden is the next Russell." Then yes, I would be hypocrital if I were to rip you for saying "Durant is the next Garnett." But where your (Toddy and Kev's too) perception begins to stray from the reality of my point, is when you think I'm making that comparison. You see, Parnelli, what I'm doing is making a correlation between the rare 7-footer than comes along every so often and has an enormous impact on his team, and the high number of NBA titles those such players have won. If you look back at the greatest dynasties in NBA history, you will begin to see a correlation between those teams, and the key big men they had manning the paint for them. For example, Shag, Duncan, Russell, Kareem, and Hakeem. Since Oden is a talented, dominant 7-footer, my point all along has been if you have the #1 pick...you have to take him. Now, that does not mean Oden is the next Russell, or that he'll go on to win a large number of NBA titles. But taking the correlation between similar sized players, and championships they've won into consideration, you gottat take that chance. Not to mention, the only other guy you could even consider taking ahead of him has arms like chicken bones and apparently you can out bench him, John. So chalk up another one for the guy who is always laying down sports insight, all while fighting the minions who's collective efforts still aren't enough to out argue me, or prove me wrong. Perception is in the eye of the beholder my friend. Whew....sometimes it's hard work making you look so bad John.

I already told you how amazing and dominant Will Purdue, Bill Cartwright, and Bill Wenington were. Those guys were such a dominant force for the Bulls and their championships. Since Oden is a talented, dominant 7-footer, Can we really call Oden dominant when he has yet to play a NBA game? As for college I would have thought a dominant force such as him would have won the championship game....

Response to Lame Point 1: You just took the centers off of Jordan's champioships teams...Jordans. So is your point that the greatest of all time didn't have a dominant center on his team when he won. Yeah, good one. Response to Lame Point 2: He was dominant in college, even as a raw freshman. That should be obvious. To take a team of freshman as far as he did, all with one hand, is more than impressive.
buckbuster11
But taking the correlation between similar sized players, Sounds like exactly what I was doing when I said Durant is a similar sized player to Garnett when he first came in. So again, me right....you wrong.

toddyboman
OK Im done ready more "Lame"points for ya. Here is whats oging to happen to Oden and Durant. Get drafted go to crappy teams in the NBA, play and get no closer to the Finals for a couple years. In those couple year they are going to hope and pray they get some kind of help to make their TEAMS better. Bottom line neither are good enough or seem to be the type of player to be able to take a game over and win it by themselves.
muggs
I still can't believe Oden is going to play in Portland. He'll be forgotten out there, and if he can bring his team to the title series any time soon...wow, how boring, the Trailblazers are playing for the title. And we thought the San Antonio Spurs in the finals was bad.
