OK I am new to all of this, just bought 27.5 acres in SC just outside of Charlotte and it's old timber land in a rural area. Was at the site tonight checking on the house construction and I took a walk about 300 yards away from the house down a hill were I was doing tractor work this weekend and I found some tracks I have never seen before. I have tons of deer and turkey but this I have never seen. Whatever it is it's big and quite different to all the tracks I have ever seen here since I bought the land in Feb.

Do I have bear ? I have heard of sightings further north near Lake Norman NC but this would be the first that I have heard in York County SC. But then again I have only lived in the area for a year this month. I'm real excited if it is Bear but I also have to keep that in mind since the area I found it in and was doing tractor work on is going to be about 1 acre of play area for the kids and it's a bit away from the house. The land is real rugged so since we have so little yard space this was the closest SOMEWHAT flat area to plant some grass for the kids to play in. I have a 7 year old and another one due in 3 months so the wife and I will have to keep it in mind during the peak seasons.

I have hunted a killed quite a few bears but the photos are somehwat hard to make a conclusive answer. The first pic, if a bear track, looks like a back paw but not a very big one. But if a bear, young kicked off of mom bears can be troublesome. the second pics looks alot more like a bear, but again, not the best pic(understanding it was the best you could do) the paw is lined up correctly and nail marks are consistant with a bruin.

So I would say, you might have one running on the property

Honestly, both picts to me look like deer tracks to me.

Tracks like that are pretty common this time of year from pregnant does. Most of the time does hind track will very closely overlap the front hoof track. Except when they are heavy with fawns. Then the hind track tends to be beside the front track.

That's what it looks like to me. And this is the time of year to see that.

Well several other people has stated the same that it appears to be 2 deer tracks next to each other. I agree the 1st photo could very easly be that but the 2nd one is the one that really caught my attention. Yes it could be 2 tracks next to each other but it's want I saw at the top that made it look more like a claw than a hoof. It looks very sharp narrow and defined towards the left.

I wish I had better tracks, we have received about .5 inches of rain since Easter Sunday and it's very dry. The only reason I got these tracks is because the .5 inches or even less here were this past Sunday and the dirt was moist. Most of the land is rock hard with some dust at the top, tracks are gone with the slightest bit of wind and not very defined.

I was there again today but did not have the camera. I'll see if I can retake the photos with better sunlight. 8:45pm in the woods is tough for natural light and if I use the flash as you can see in the top photo it washes out a lot of the detail.
