Guest Andrea
Got a pile of silver queen corn spread out on my floor and had just started cutting the first cob when SLLLLLLLLLLICE went the knife right thru my thumb. Let's just say I am not good with human blood. It was dripping everywhere. I could feel the blood leaving my brain pretty quickly. So I hit the floor. Embarassing, but I've always been like that. Animal blood doesn't bother me a bit. But the sight of human blood, especially MINE, tends to make me very light headed. My husband thought it was quite amusing to say the least. No stitches needed I don't think. It's bandaged up. And I don't wanna unwrap it. Thought I'd share my morning with ya. Corn anyone??

Guest Finn
Sorry to hear that, but I'd recommend getting it looked at. I can relate to slicing the fingers when not meaning to. from austin powers, "I didn't have any corn"
OJR
Sorry to hear this! Andrea, go and get it checked! Wouldn't hurt to get a tetenus shot either!
Tominator
I've done that before. lol. Hurts for a bit. My own blood used to floor me too, but not anymore.
Turkeygirl
Wow Andrea.....keep it clean! Thanks for the story, lol! I'm kinda the same way, not to the passing out point, but if there is enough of my own blood..kind of gross.
need2hunt
Well on the bright side, you didn't fall on the knife. Hope you heal up quick
christsavedme
Man I hate it when that happens. Just glad my own blood doesn't bother me....course no one elses does either. Would be in the wrong business if that was the case. Sure wouldn't hurt to get it looked at girl and get your tetnus updated if you haven't had it in awhile. Glad you are okay! The corn will be worth it! LOL
buckee
Why did you put your thumb in the way? ...OUCH !!! I used to be the same way with my own blood, but I'm getting better...LOL. I remember when I was in my early teens, I was going fishing, so I went about collecting some nice dew worms hidden under rocks in the ditch. I lifted up a big heavy rock, that was wedged tightly beside another rock, and there he was, the fatty of them all. I went for him, fast because he was headed down his hole, but I should have been holding on tighter to that big rock ..LOL Down it slammed, flattening a couple of fingers between the two tight rocks, before I could pull out my hand. I lifted the rock, with super human strength...LOL...and ran in the house, where my Aunt and Mom ran cold water over my very squished and bleeding fingers. Heck, I only fainted 3 times there...LOL:D
LifeNRA
No stitches needed I don't think. It's bandaged up. And I don't wanna unwrap it. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, maybe you should see a doctor! Let them decide whether stitches are needed! Also, is your tetanus shots up to date!
Tominator
If it's any consolation, I clunked myself over the head with a post driver about 2 hours ago. Haven't had a knot on my head like this in years.
Nut
Haven't had a knot on my head like this in years. I can't wait to see what ohiobucks will say about that:D;) For Andrea,If a cut is straight and is able to get cleaned out there is no need to see a doctor unless it makes you feel better. You are already doing what a doctor would do. I get cut all the time. Barely even notice it anymore. Only reason I put a band aid on is to keep the blood off things. stevebeilgard
well, finish the story... how was the silver queen corn. lol hope the finger gets all better.
wtnhunt
Blood does not really bother me, not my own either. Still at least a month to go before we start picking any corn here. Hope it heals up quick Andrea.
Guest Andrea
I took the bandage off and it's not bleeding anymore. I put a triple antibiotic on it and wrapped it back up. I think it'll be fine. It sure bled a lot though!!!! I tell ya, I wouldn't be any good in an emergency situation. My husband cuts himself all the time and I can't help him at all. Totaly pathetic. Still got half a pile of corn to shuck this morning. I figured out how to do it without cutting so much.
Bachflock
Now it'll seem like your finger is 3 times bigger than the rest of them. Take care not to whack it on everything!

Well, come on darlin', you have to share that secret. I put up tons of corn and I'm always looking for a more efficient way.

Well, you can't avoid cutting the top off the corn, but the bottom part, the thickest, I just break off. I just slice around it a little bit then snap it off. Sorry....you were probably already doing it like that anyway. I wonder if I just laid them all out straight.....I could whack off the ends with a machete. ( Then you'll be reading a post about me in the hospital getting a transfusion)
Shaun_300
Ouch is right! That had to hurt. I am the same way, I won't faint but if it's bad enough I'll get the sweats REAL bad and I'll start to black out. Being a mechanic it can be rather tough on the hands. I've made lots of hammer/finger connections, grinding, sanding... the list goes on. Think the worst one was two winters ago I was building an ice shack with my buddy. Had the air nailer going and put a 3" nail right through two of my fingers. Didn't even feel it at first until I saw the blood. But holy smokes, 20 minutes later it was throbbing so hard I thought my fingers were gonna fall off!
Jeramie
Been there and done that! I have a slight phobia of blood. It use to be much worse. The really bad part is Im OK with mine (for the most part) but someone else bleeding around me... Thats a different story.
Newarcher
Ouch, have you had a teatnus shot lately? If not, another poke is in your future. We wouldn't want you getting lockjaw and not being able to ramble on senselessly.... My mother in law doesn't want to dull the tips of our new knives to get dull when she puts them in the dishwasher, so she places them point up. I freaked out on her because the kids often run through the kitchen and could be killed if they tripped while the washer was open. Anyway, I went in while dark and didn't turn on the light while I was looking for a sippy cup lid and impaled my hand on it. I went to the sink 2 feet away and in just that short of a time blood was everywhere. I still get queasy thinking about that. Almost threw up and passed out. First time I had been actually stabbed. Heal up. New
Newarcher
By the way, why the knife? You peel the husks down and then snap off the bottom with your hands. I am confused. I know that being from the down South, you are familiar with wringing the neck of a chicken....same motion just a little firmer grip is required. New Har har har......never wrung a chicken's neck thank ya. Reason why I cut them is because when you snap them, you lose too much of the cob. ( Well, I do anyway) I've made up my mind that a machete will be used next time. So stay tuned for another exciting post. LOL
