This is what is written on the back of the calls.

On the back of the picture call for auction i wrote..In memory of Davis Ashburn, aka Exturkinator,Brother in Christ.

Then on the call that goes with it i wrote, In memory of david ashburn, a realtree family member, Brother in Christ,,aka exturkinator.

On the call for the family i wrote..

Our deepest sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic event. Our hearts are broken. Dr. David Ashburn was one of my daughter Josephine Rosie Benson’s Doctors. He was with us when she passed after three weeks in NICU. She was born with HLHS a congenital heart defect. We developed a connection quickly and became friends over the three weeks we knew him. He made our day a little brighter each time we saw him. His wit and charm, he was everything a Doctor should be, caring, kind, compassionate. We talked of fly-fishing in northern Michigan, how we would go one day. I never made him the flies I promised. He gave me his home phone number just in case I needed to talk. This was the kind of person he was. Such a great man, a huge loss for all of us.

This is a great thing your doing.

Our bid is 170.00

I'm new to the realtree.com forums, and Dr. David Ashburn is the reason why. I'm honored to join and have gained much in reading all of your postings.

As a nurse in the pediatric OR at the University of Michigan, I first met David in 2005 and was impressed from day one. Impressed with his surgical skills, contagious enthusiasm and quest for knowledge. Yet I was equally, if not more so, taken with his down-to-earth sincerity. He was the real deal, whenever and wherever. His sister-in-law perhaps said it best as she spoke at his memorial service here in Ann Arbor last Friday - "David was David. Whether he was wearing a physician jacket or wearing a camo jacket." The service, by the way, was a beautiful testament to the strength, comfort and power of Christian faith. Those with faith found reassurance, and I suspect that those without faith are now reconsidering. While deeply saddened and now facing life on earth without the love of her life, his wife clearly keeps the faith and truly rejoices in the knowledge of David's place in heaven.

I assure you all, as someone privileged enough to have known the man for yet a brief time in life, he was every bit as wonderful and gifted as anything you've read or experienced through your on-line conversations with him. Overall, hunters in the medical field at U of M tend to be the exception more than the rule. I am proud to be one of the "exceptions" and always looked forward to sharing hunting stories with David, each of us knowing that the mutual interest and excitement was genuine. His absence here is profound and painful, no doubt.

There is so much more to say, but I'll close with this final thought. May we all count our blessings, cherish our spouses, hug our children one extra time (and then once again for good measure), listen, share, dare to be "real" no matter the circumstances, and truly embrace living and our time here with each other in helpful, sincere and caring ways. Kind of like Dr. Ashburn did.

I would like to move the bid up to $200 for those awesome Exturkinator calls.

Thanks for reading,

Laura

The turkey hunter

Laura's post was also hard for me to read..

Wow Laura, even though I never met Dave we keep in touch last year with him being on my turkey team. I know he will be missed by the people that he touched and healed. I do not know whet else to say.

The fullfan bids 220.00.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27

The verb "visit" above means:

1) to look upon or after, to inspect, examine with the eyes

a)
in order to see how he is, i.e. to visit, go to see one
1)
the poor and afflicted, the sick

b)
to look upon
in order to help or to benefit

1)
to look after, have care for, provide for: of God

c)
to look (about) for, look out (one to choose, employ, etc.)

My bid is $275. Great to hear your story, Laura.

i'm seeing a lot of new folks on the forums. welcome, one and all. i hope you find the forums a home, and stick around. i only know david as exturkinator, and never even knew he was a doctor. but then again, i don't know what most on here do. but, i do know david as a christian, willing to help out, and a good sence of humor. i'll miss him.

not being a turkey hunter, i have no use for a call. i usully just shue them away with a broom.. lol. so, i'll just add 50.00 to the high bid, and the high bidder gets the call. go for it, guys.
