Mountaineer
How's everybody been doing with the catfishing so far this year? We've been out quite a few times so far to a local river and haven't really done much, only a few small channel's and mud cats. Still trying to find some new spots to fish with deeper water and hopefully some deep holes.
Guest Andrea
Done pretty well this year despite little rain. Caught a 14 pound channel cat and my husband caught a 40 pound flathead in the same weekend. Lots of smaller cats too.
Jeramie
Killing the channels around here! Actually we have had far to much rain for 2-weeks but before that we were catching them on plastics used for White bass! They are really spawning like crazy! Jeramie
Forget the monsters. Those small ones are the ones to eat!
DU_man_84
Forget the monsters. Those small ones are the ones to eat! well when im fishing ponds i definately go for the smaller ones to take home, but the river behind my house isnt the cleanest your only suppose to have one serving of catfish a month out of it cause of the really high merc levels, so i dont eat the cats outa there, wish i did, i would have a whole freezer full of them
Gator
Here is one we caught 2nd week of may. And yes, the big ones are just as good as the little ones
Mountaineer
Very nice cat Gator! How much did that thing weigh in at? When it comes to eater cats, small channels are my favorite. The big muds are good too, for some reason the smaller muds always taste "mushy". I can't wait to get out after some of this heavy rain we've been having! rad_112176
We have been doing pretty good so far this year. We live in southern Indiana and are in a serious drought so the waters are down pretty far and the cats are hiding in the deeper water in the center of the river. Only place with current and the barge traffic is to busy to try and fish it good. If you look at my thread called " Good Memorial Weekend " you will see a few of the ones we caught that weekend. Has anyone seen the gut on that fish of Gator's? That thing was a fat pig. Wish i could have him on the end of my pole.
Gator
Mountianeer, that fish tipped the scale at 80lbs.
Tominator
We caught about 20 accidentally while trying for walleyes last week. We toss them all back, not a big fan of bottom feeders.
rhine16
I've never catfished much until this year. Both my Grandads stocked their ponds a year and a half ago, and there now .75 lb to 1.5 lbs for the most part. I've got 4 small ponds with em, and a new 2 acre pond with some in it. It's been alot of fun for the kids, but i'm just not much into it. I'd rather just stick to the bass.
