Guest macoop
Thanks for the help! Food plot pics. I cleared out one acre in some of the thickest mesquite on my place. I grubbed all of the stumps with a backhoe and then levelled the ground. I chiselled to about 16-18" deep many times since the ground had never been broke. I also disced about 10 different times and then drug it with a drag harrow to smooth it all out. I didn't know what to plant since we don't get much rain in Crosby Co.,Texas. (about 18-20 inches a year) I didn't want to put all of my eggs in one basket so I broadcast milo on the entire acre. I tried to do it lightly but I think I got it too thick. I planted about 75% of the plot(on top of the milo) in lablab and put Tecomate Buckbeans on the other 25%. The lablab exploded and the buckbeans grow slower. Obviously from the picture the milo is thriving. It started raining 10 minutes after I planted and we have received some sort of rain almost weekly since I planted. What luck! I planted on April 30th so it's been about 6 weeks or so since I planted. We have about 18 inches of rain for this year already so I am elated. I wanted to control the plot since it is small so I built the deer proof fence around it. I cut access to through the bottom about 22" high by 15' long so the deer can crawl under and the cows can't get in. If I didn't have cows I would open the whole thing up at the gates on both ends. The deer are walking the fence and so are the cows. From the pictures and tracks I have had a few deer in there but not many. They are still getting used to it. I've got a couple of real nice deer on my place that always disappear when the season opens and I'm hoping this will help them grow and develop and maybe stick around for bow season. Sam16
that looks awesome buddy. Should be a deer hot spot. I'm hoping my plots end up half that good. Nice work
