You can read about it here... http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/061807/met_178250725.shtml

In a nutshell, here's what happened. A guy who works and lives in an apartment complex woke up in the middle of the night when he heard a neighbor scream that she'd been shot. He grabbed his shotgun and ran next door to find the woman laying on the floor bleeding. Another neighbor arrived and the guy handed the shotgun to him, then administered first aid to the woman until police and paramedics arrived.

The next morning at 9:30 he was called into his boss's office to give a statement about what happened. Later that afternoon he was called back in and fired. The reason was for "gross misconduct" because he "had a weapon in the workplace."

If it is his work-place, and his residence, ...then where does his work station end and his private life begin. Should be outside his door, but in this case, he was off duty and sleeping, and should be commended, not condemned for going to someone's aid in the middle of the night. Not too many folks would stick their neck out like that these days.

If I was him I'd get a good lawyer too, give myself a retroactive raise, and find a new job.
