Texan_Til_I_Die
You can read about it here... http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/061807/met_178250725.shtml In a nutshell, here's what happened. A guy who works and lives in an apartment complex woke up in the middle of the night when he heard a neighbor scream that she'd been shot. He grabbed his shotgun and ran next door to find the woman laying on the floor bleeding. Another neighbor arrived and the guy handed the shotgun to him, then administered first aid to the woman until police and paramedics arrived. The next morning at 9:30 he was called into his boss's office to give a statement about what happened. Later that afternoon he was called back in and fired. The reason was for "gross misconduct" because he "had a weapon in the workplace."
Gator
This sounds almost like a "catch 22" . Personally, I think the guy got the wrong end of the deal.

toddyboman
Thats sad. A person is trying to help another and possibly protect himself and in the end he looses his job. Whats next.....
Ravin R10 man
If you ask me he should have been promoted!!
archerjg
That is terrible and uncalled for. The company seems like it is just trying to cover itself in case of a law suit. THey should be ashamed of themselves for firing him, but I am sure they could care less. Archerjg

buckee
If it is his work-place, and his residence, ...then where does his work station end and his private life begin. Should be outside his door, but in this case, he was off duty and sleeping, and should be commended, not condemned for going to someone's aid in the middle of the night. Not too many folks would stick their neck out like that these days. If I was him I'd get a good lawyer too, give myself a retroactive raise, and find a new job. wtnhunt
That is really screwed up, the guy should be rewarded for his actions. At least the last part of the article, the guy has it right all the way, when saying this "If I'd lose my job again for helping some girl's life ... I'd do it over and over,"

unioncountyslayer
If I can't have a job where I can pack heat to protect myself I don't want that job! He's better off without that kind of liberal administration.
