wtnhunt
Last week mid week our youngest daughter, 19 months old, started running a mild fever and had no other symptoms other than being a little cranky and and just plain not feeling good. Gave her alternating doses of tylenol and motrin for two days to keep the fever down and then it was gone. She had no other symptoms until Friday evening when the spots showed up on her neck. Cannot for the life of me figure out who she came in contact with that should got them from??? Saturday she had a mild case of the spots all over her back, chest, and some on her face. By Monday they were all gone, so the vaccine apparently did help with keeping it from being worse than a full blown case. But all 3 of my kids now all of which have had the shot have had similar cases of the chicken pox. They all got the shots at the same physicians office too. Anyone else have similar experiences with vaccines with their kids?
NS whitetail
how long before this happened did she have the vaccine ? My young fella had them right after he got his shot, they told us he would, because thats what the shot does -- gives you a small dose of the illness. wtnhunt
She had the vaccine at one year with the other immunizations they give Lewis, so it was about 7 months ago:confused:

If so, maybe someone here knows who you are looking for.

Best bet in my opinion would be to create a new thread in the lounge explaining the situation and the best description you can give of who it is you are looking for. Guest Andrea
If I remember correctly William, I thought the doctor said that the vaccine prohibits chicken pox from being severe, but doesn't completely eliminate against contraction. Did you call your doctor??

Did you call your doctor?? You are right Andrea, the vaccine is supposed to lessen the severity of the chicken pox not completely prevent them. I just thought it was odd that all three kids have gotten mild cases at some point well beyond being given the vaccine. Still am scratching my head trying to figure out how she got them in the first place.
dogdoc
William--my oldest came down with a mild case of chicken pox about 8 months ago--she also has had the vaccine. it was a very mild case and only lasted a few days. nothing like the case i had in 1st grade
wtnhunt
Oh believe me I am thankful she had the vaccine, it was not bad, could have definitely been worse. She never really even got into scratching. The spots were there then gone in a matter of a short time relatively speaking from what I remember of my experience with them when I was a kid. I am more so wondering why now, we have not really been anywhere since school has been out for her to have exposure. I will have to ask the wife, but it seems my older two daughters also got them within a year after having the shot, but not immediately after getting the shot. toddyboman
Funny that exact same thing just happened to my daughter. She (my daughter) had the chicken pox for 4-5 days then they were all gone. Of course I was mad because my thinking was why did we get the shot if it didn't work. Then the doctor told me the same thing Andrea said. that the vaccine prohibits chicken pox from being severe, but doesn't completely eliminate against contraction. So after she told me that I was happy we gave her the shot.
doog3
chicken pox ya get them anywhere and anyplace. they are contagious before the spots have broken out. symptoms don't usually show till 7 to 10 days fever then spots show up a few days later
