From what ive heard and read go with the Mossberg Silver Reserve. If you're a hardcore wing shooter, or a clay buster it may let you down a little. If you're like me and just love to shoot and would like a decent hunting gun for the money jump on it.

I have every intention of buying one myself. I did research on both and the Mossberg won out every time. Even the NRA's magazine had an article about the silver reserve. They took it to Mexico Dove hunting and really enjoyed it.

My only suggestion is pull one up a couple of times before getting to serious about the purchase. Im 5'8 and they fit me like a glove. A friend of mine is well over 6' and he doesn't like them at all. He cant get to the barrel very quickly and or comfortably. But then again, it fits me fine......

Look at the CZ's. They are a better gun than the Spartan and less expensive than the Mossberg. I shoot a Beretta, but if you are trying to stay within your price range then it is out of the question. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to get a quality O/U for the price you mentioned, but IMO your best avenue for an affoedable gun will be one of the CZ's.

My dad had a mossberg and took it to GA on a quail hunt and it started fireing both barrells. But on the same side of the coin Ive heard alot of people knock EAA's, and he has taken a 20ga for the past 5-7 years and it hasnt layed down yet.

Another option though might be the Stoeger Condor series Ive got my eye on a 16ga just waiting on my bonus check. I think you can get a combo for a little over 600.

Think I have to agree with Flintlock. I have owned and shot many shotguns and will tell you that spending some money on a quality gun is well worth it. If you shoot alot, ( trap, skeet, sporting clays, or just bird hunting) most less expensive guns will simply not hold up. If you set your budget around $1500 there are several bottom end guns out there that are fine. Spending $2500-3500 will open up alot more options. Look on Guns America and you might find a deal in the $1200-1500 range. I know alot of folks talk about the Stoeger, Spartan, and some other low end guns and I would advise to stay away from those. If you get a chance to shoot a high quality scattergun and then compare to some of the lower end guns, you will see where I base my opinion. Good luck in your search. I have a 12ga. o/u that I would sale for around $1200. It is an American made Remington 332. I don't shoot a 12 anymore and have no use for it.

Agreed. The Spartans feel like deckposts in my hands. The Stoegers are serviceable guns but they ain't what I'd call "great" guns. The Mossbergs are right in line with the Stoegers.

Not so fast. I'm currently shooting an O/U that cost less than $1500 new and it's FAR from a "bottom end" gun. As a matter of fact.....it laid on the counter of the gun shop beside over a dozen other O/U's costing up to aroun $4K and (to my feel) whipped them all.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Look for a used Winchester 101 or Browning Superposed.........2 outrageously fine O/U's that can be had in good used condition for the $1500 mark or less.
