Adjam5
I know to match up spine with bow weight, but there are no spine selection tables for stick n strings like there are for compounds. The most I find is a spine selection of 250 or 350. Also, should the brace height determine the lenth of the fletch? Could the fletch touch the shelf/rest before the arrow is drawn? Any info appreciated. Thanks
archerjg
If you are wanting to shoot aluminum or carbon arrows from a traditional bow try going to Easton Archery http://eastonarchery.com/shaftSelector/hunting/ss.asp Just choose the bow type, the arrow length, the tip weight and it will tell you what size shaft that you need to use. JimPic
Carbon Express has a 150 Heritage shaft that flys very good off of lower weight bows.I use them off my bows in the 50-56lb range.GoldTip also has a 3555 shaft that works well too. I shoot 4" fletchings on all my arrows.Brace height has no bearing on fletch size. What weight bow, recurve or longbow, are you shooting and at what draw length? Adjam5
I am shooting a vintage Ben Pearson Javelina. 66" 45/28" I was leaning towards the wood grain carbons, like the Heritage and Beman classic's. Best I've found fletched was Archery Experts with a choice of 3-4 or 5"duravanes or $25 more for the special fletch's, like quick spins, blasers and feathers. But those Gold tip 35-55's Jim mentioned have piqued my curiosity. Are those Gold Tips standard black? Also should the fletch touch the shelf before the arrow is drawn? That way I'll know what size fletch to get for the arrows. The 5" shield cut feathers I have on my cedar shafts look nice, but they can't take a beatin' Looking to trade up! Thanks for the help Jim! JimPic
Goldtip has a traditional shaft with a woodgrain finish.Your fletching doesn't have to touch the shelf before drawing.I'd probably stick with the 5" or try a 4". One thing I did notice is that the GT Traditional's spine a little heavier than the Goldtip XT's(I spine test every shaft I make). So if they're too stiff for your bow,you might have to use a 100gr brass insert or a heavier point to get them to tune good-especially if your bow isn't cut to center or near center shot
