dogdoc
Re: new gun optima v.s. kodiak welcome to the forum. I decided on the Optima pro over the kodiak. However, I just bought the gun a few weeks ago so haven't had a chance to shoot it yet! todd

AJ
Re: new gun optima v.s. kodiak [ QUOTE ] because this will be my firsy gun and i would like it cheaper but not to cheap [/ QUOTE ] Did you ever stop to think that if you start off with a high quality piece of equipment, it may enhance your view of the sport? I don't buy the "I am just starting out, so I will buy a cheap gun to see if I like it", mentality. I suggest getting a good quality gun. If you don't like ML hunting, you can sell the gun. If you get an el cheapo gun and don't like it, its harder to get rid of the gun. Don't close your mind to decent equipment. Take a look at T/C and Knight. Take a look at the post Triple Se7en has below they are good quality guns for low prices.

hoyt19
Re: new gun optima v.s. kodiak I persoanlly dont see why some people here have some many negative things to say about cva. I bought an optima this year. It was my first ml and I took 2 bucks with it this year, one being my biggest ever. Are they as flashy or even of the same stature of TC or Knight or AH, prolly not. But are they safe, and will it work, YES. Mine is extremely accurate, and would be comfortable shooting to 125 yards or more. Would I have rather had a Omega or a Encore, yes. But being in college full time, working part time and trying to keep my g/f happy, all i could afford was the optima, and Im more than happy with it and would suggest it to anyone. [/ QUOTE ] Only because I've shot so many of them. Extruded barrel material can be some pretty shoddy, cobby stuff. Why would it take FIVE Optimas to get one that was not defective? Amazing, but true. As it is today, you can fly 1st class with a Knight or Sidekick, and enjoy a far better trigger, and stronger, higher grade of American barrel for the same dollars. IF this is true, then my little brother and myself must have been lucky. We had a 20 percent chance of getting a non defective barrell, and both of our optimas are doing great. You guys are also missing another pointer here, some people, for whatever reasons cant spend TC or Knight kind of money and have to go another route. And as for the blueing on the barrell mine is stainless and there arent any grinder marks. REDPEP- I shoot 150gr of 777 with a 240gr hornaday XTPMAG, and a 3-9-40 nikon prostaff
