Which hand?

Re: Which hand?

Actually..I disagree with the above responces. It's not whether he is right handed or left handed, it has to do with which eye is dominant .

I am a right eye dominant, righted handed shooter, but am a lefty when it comes to writing.

He needs to do the eye dominant test to figure out which bow to get.

Re: Which hand?

Everyone is correct, but Buckee has some real important info. My bowhunting buddy shot right-handed until a few years ago when he discovered he has a dominant left-eye. I let him take my old bow and after practicing with it was shooting much better. He now shoots left-handed bows and is much more consistent.

I'm just the opposite of Buckee. I write right-handed, but shoot lefty with my bow and gun.

I came from your messed up gene pool... too (non-typical)grin.gif

I'm left handed at drawing pictures, writing, and painting, but I couldn't throw a ball with my left hand, or bat left handed if my life depended on it. grin.gif I do everything else with my right. I handle most tools with my right as well. crazy.gif

Me too Sherm. I write left handed, and do some other things lefty, but for the most part, I do everything right handed. Also, I am left eye dominant, but there's no way I could pull my bow back with my left hand without looking like a contortionist.

Big time, weirdo, non-typical here.

Why'd you have to go upset the apple cart buckee... next you'll be telling him he needs to think base it on what shoe he ties first grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Just kidding... Buckee's right, test the eye... if he's right eye dominat... the right handed bow it is.

However, if he has macular degeneration of his right eye.... I would suggest a left handed bow mad.gifblush.gifcrazy.gifconfused.gifwink.gif

Re: Which hand?

The so-called proper way is to go with the dominant eye being the one you aim with. Using that theory all left eye dominant individuals should shoot left handed bow or rifles/shotguns. This is more important when wing shooting with a shotgun, as you point the gun not aim and you will tend to point it where your dominant eye is looking which unless the gun is mounted to the shoulder on the same side will surely result in a miss. When shooting using sights, one can train the non-dominant eye to look through the sights and this can even be accomplished with both eyes open. As far as many lefties doing most things with their right hand, well, that has to do with most tools, etc. being built for righties. If I had it to do all over again I would switch to left handed bows, rifles and shotguns, but after forty some years it is hard to learn new tricks.

A left handed person generally shoots a left hand bow. That's simple enough, but if you've never shot a bow before, you could easily misunderstand how bows are oriented for right and left hand. If someone is left handed he should take left handed bow otherwise it will cause him trouble. You should give visit to this website which helps to choose right choice for you.
