Swamphunter
My buddy is buying a new bow and he is right handed. He holds the bow with his left hand, he wants to know what bow to get, right handed or left handed. I should know this but I am second guessing myself that I told him correctly. I told him he needs a right handed bow....am I right?
dogdoc
Re: Which hand? you are correct--he needs a right handed bow. The right hand will draw the string and the left hand will hold the bow!
Tominator
Re: Which hand? yep, it's the hand you shoot with, not the hand you hold with. you and Todd are correct.

buckee
Re: Which hand? Actually..I disagree with the above responces. It's not whether he is right handed or left handed, it has to do with which eye is dominant . I am a right eye dominant, righted handed shooter, but am a lefty when it comes to writing. He needs to do the eye dominant test to figure out which bow to get.
James7xChamp3
Re: Which hand? Everyone is correct, but Buckee has some real important info. My bowhunting buddy shot right-handed until a few years ago when he discovered he has a dominant left-eye. I let him take my old bow and after practicing with it was shooting much better. He now shoots left-handed bows and is much more consistent. I'm just the opposite of Buckee. I write right-handed, but shoot lefty with my bow and gun. huntinsonovagun
Re: Which hand? Man.....you lefty's are WEIRD!!!! Make up your mind!!! I right with my right hand, shoot with my right hand.......make up your mind!!!!!!!!!!!!
VermontHunter
Re: Which hand? Actually I'm a dominate right hander but like buckee has stated my left eye is the dominate eye therefore I shoot left handed and feel quite comfortable doing it. If you were to watch me shoot my bow you would think that I was left handed.

JimT
Re: Which hand? I am right handed and draw with my right arm. I doubt I could even draw my bow with my left arm. I know I cannot thro a ball far with it.
VermontHunter
Re: Which hand? My father is always amazed when we shoot together, he's always asking me how the heck I can draw a bow back left handed if I'm right handed. I laugh at him and tell him you tell me I came from your messed up gene pool...

buckee
Re: Which hand? I came from your messed up gene pool... too (non-typical) I'm left handed at drawing pictures, writing, and painting, but I couldn't throw a ball with my left hand, or bat left handed if my life depended on it. I do everything else with my right. I handle most tools with my right as well.

I write left handed, and do some other things lefty, but for the most part, I do everything right handed. Also, I am left eye dominant, but there's no way I could pull my bow back with my left hand without looking like a contortionist. Big time, weirdo, non-typical here. Buckee's right, test the eye... if he's right eye dominat... the right handed bow it is. However, if he has macular degeneration of his right eye.... I would suggest a left handed bow

elkoholic
Re: Which hand? The so-called proper way is to go with the dominant eye being the one you aim with. Using that theory all left eye dominant individuals should shoot left handed bow or rifles/shotguns. This is more important when wing shooting with a shotgun, as you point the gun not aim and you will tend to point it where your dominant eye is looking which unless the gun is mounted to the shoulder on the same side will surely result in a miss. When shooting using sights, one can train the non-dominant eye to look through the sights and this can even be accomplished with both eyes open. As far as many lefties doing most things with their right hand, well, that has to do with most tools, etc. being built for righties. If I had it to do all over again I would switch to left handed bows, rifles and shotguns, but after forty some years it is hard to learn new tricks. bennettwindrow14
A left handed person generally shoots a left hand bow. That's simple enough, but if you've never shot a bow before, you could easily misunderstand how bows are oriented for right and left hand. If someone is left handed he should take left handed bow otherwise it will cause him trouble. You should give visit to this website which helps to choose right choice for you.
