Why I love being a DAD and an outdoorsman

I was invited to "assist" with my friends birthday gathering involving half a dozen 11 year old boys, my son included. We were taking them to a conservation club with a pond that has the fastest biting, and "smallest" bluegills in Illinois. I decided to bring two poles in case one of the other boys had a mishap. While fishing, I was approached by another little boy, about 5, who was with his dad, and they had a huge hook in the mouth of a small bluegill, and needed my pliers....I then noticed the little boy (maybe 4) was trying to fish with a open face reel older than dirt, so I immediately put a brand new small brim hook, and weighted bobber on my other pole, a closed face Zebco, and sent him on his way for the next three hours...he was laughing, pictures taken, his Grandma showed up with another little girl, (maybe 3) cute as a bug...and she began catching those bluegills like a pro...they were taking pics " thats her first fish", take a pic.....Then it happened....the little girl came over and gave me my pole back, and thanked me in SIGN LANGUAGE....it was so sweet, she was showing me in sign the size of her fish (and she made em bigger..than they were..lol) she then hugged me, and kissed my cheek......and that folks is WHY I love being who I am.....something so simple as bringing a little extra gear may change your whole life....in a good way..........al

Funny how some of the kids with the hardest plights in the world are often the sweetest and most caring kids. Find some kid with perfect health and you would have probably have had to go searching for your rod only to find it laying in the grass somewhere.

Oh, and you might want to brush up on your sign language. When a deaf person cups both of their hands together, that doesn't mean 'heart'. It means, "I just made a backlash THIS BIG in your favorite reel! " :D

That's a great story. Nothing like a deaf child to humble your spirit and uplift it at the same time.
