wtnhunt
Going to be shooting my wifes .243 and the wife shoots 100 grain core lokts with it for deer. My shots would not likely be any farther than 250 yards. Should I use the 100 grainers or try something lighter like the 75 grain acu tips or any other suggestions on .243 ammo for yotes. KTMMIKE
Re: bullet selection Do you plan on selling the coyotes? That may make a difference in bullet selection. If you're just thinning them out like you've talked about then it probably doesn't matter. I'm by no means a gun expert but I use a 45 grain in my .223 for coyotes. wtnhunt
Re: bullet selection Might try to sell them if I can find anyone who wants them. The rifle I will be using is going to be a savage model 10 in .243. Was looking for factory ammo more geared towards varmints than the core lokts. jcwa
Re: bullet selection Try the 100gr and see how it performs first. Most of the time a larger grain bullet will do less damage than a smaller grain bullet will. Larger grain bullets do no have time to fully expand on smaller animals like coyotes
wtnhunt
Re: bullet selection I shot one about a month or so ago in the backyard after coming in from deer hunting with a 100 grain corelokt at about 90 yards out. The yote was hit pretty good and bled, but it did run off. I planned to deer hunt that afternoon and did not go back int he woods to look real hard to find it, but did look around at the blood and appeared it was a good lung hit. wtnhunt
Re: bullet selection [ QUOTE ] you still a little mad at those yotes? [/ QUOTE ] Dont think I will forget them getting that doe anytime soon Todd. Guess I am realizing that the coyotes are probably doing more damage to the deer and turkeys here than I had ever before thought. Also like the idea of getting more time out hunting between deer and turkey season going after the coyotes.
Mach1
Re: bullet selection My brother uses a little too much gun for coyotes. He uses a Remingtion 30/.06 with 150 grain Core Locks. Needless to say he doesn't sell them. He shot one at 40 yds a week or so ago and there wasn't much left of the opposite shoulder or the heart or lungs. Shaun_300
Re: bullet selection lol if yotes were takin my deer and turkeys, i'd take my .300 WSM to them LOL, that would get rid of them
wtnhunt
Re: bullet selection Thanls for all the suggestions. The one I shot with the 100 grain core lokts ran off. Not sure how far did not go looking really hard for it., but it was hit pretty good. I dont think the core lokts being designed for deer expanded much on that yote I shot earlier on this fall. Think I may try some of the those 75 grain accu tips and see how they perform on paper.
