Guest Finn
Just curious, out of all of you who dis the game, I'm wonder how many of you have ever played it? I'd be willing be bet, none. Our school was too small to have hockey, so I never played. I'm sure I would have liked to play it. I went to one college game and enjoyed it, but can't watch more than a minute or 2 on tv...sorry Trying to lure other sports fans in with showing fight highlights isn't working. Also, the stinkin season seems to last from August to June. Way too long to keep me interested in brawl highlights. You say fights are an important part of the game....maybe so, but I don't see myself ever being interested in a sport where a penalty is the highlight of the game
muggs
Lets not get off base here guys and gals. Fighting is a very small part of the game, they don't break out as often as you guys seem to think. There's a lot of speed, skill and grace to the sport too ya know. Anyone of the bashers ever try stickhandling through guys, all while ice skating really fast? Hockey's a unique game and takes a very long time to master. Actually, you really have to start at a very young age if you want to play at high levels (I'm talking 4 and 5 years old). Not many other sports are like that. Must be challenging then, ey? Guest Finn
Oh, I agree it's a tough sport to become good at. It seems like every hockey highlight includes a fight, no?
Muff
Well well well a hockey fight has broke out here on Realtree and I am not part of it:eek::D:D GO MUGGS GO!!!!...everything you say is right!!!!!!!....I have played the game since I was 4 years old...right up to last year when I blew my knee out:mad: I played net all my life...and yes a few times I had to drop the mitts to stick up for myself:eek: I am sorry to say to you guys my friends south of the border but its a big part of the game and I never want to see it go away....I love to play or watch the game it the greatest game in the world...JMO
muggs
It seems like every hockey highlight includes a fight, no? I can see why you think that, and I'm sure ESPN shows more than enough figh highlights (they also showed "The Bronx is Burning too:eek: wow, was that bad:D) but they also show some purdy goals and saves. It's just easier for sportcasters who don't understand the game themselves to dismiss it, then it is to risk looking like they don't know what they're talking about. But I'm actually OK with it being a niche' market sport though. After all, I think if a guy like Stephen A. Smith actually enjoyed the game, it would take away from it for me. "Ya noo what I sayin'?";)

Great point...hockey's got that going for em, which is nice
Tominator
Unfortunately, I have to agree with Eric. (geez I hate that) Hockey is incredibly tough; toughest I've ever participated in that's for sure. Personally, out of all the pro sports out there, Hockey has the best athletes, hands down. VermontHunter
You forgot about this Muggs. And how could you forget this classic with Domi? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUCHRudon3U I was looking around for the one where a Bruin went into the crowd too, but I couldn't find it. I don't remember the player. I want to say Orr or maybe Borque???? Chris, Chris my friend ,, you couldn't have picked worse examples.. Lets see Domi is attacked by a spectator in the penalty box... (Not a sport related incident,, just a ruley fan that couldn't take his punishment like a man ... :D ) and this so called fight you are referring to with the Bruins player was Pat Oriley,, after a fan threw a glass bottle at him from the stands ,,, this is why beverages are now served in cups... No fighting in Hockey, would be like Football without the ball .... BOOORRRRIIIINNNNGGGG !!! ... Hockey is the ultimate sport,,, if you don't think so,,, lace em' up and go at it straight out for 30sec. shifts for over an hour while being hammered every shift....:D watch some women's hockey,, WOW, those girls are just brutal... What's up with this Hotdog crap anyhow,,, and they say NASCAR isn't a sport ... Give me a break ..
toddyboman
Just curious, out of all of you who dis the game, I'm wonder how many of you have ever played it? I'd be willing be bet, none. Well that was going to be my next point/question for you guys.(but I had to go to the doctor:mad:, what a fun time that was:rolleyes:) Anyways I think that is why I do not know how to play, understand it, follow it, and the reason I have little interest in it. It is just one of those sports we NEVER played in school, heck we didn't even discussed it. Come to think of it I have never had a pair of ice skates on. Hockey is just one of those things that is not popular around here.
Guest Finn
Never said it wasn't hard.....just saying there's gotta be a reason a hotdog eating contest got more press
toddyboman
and they say NASCAR isn't a sport ... Give me a break .. Maybe we need to start a new thread for that one.....:D:D
VermontHunter
Never said it wasn't hard.....just saying there's gotta be a reason a hotdog eating contest got more press I still say the Liberals had something to do with that ... :D What else could it have been ?? .. I was just showing a couple examples of players going into the stands. Didn't say they were justified or not, just the fact that they went into the stands. Sheesh. VermontHunter
But Chris, Domi didn't go into the stands,, the spectator went over the penalty box glass after Domi ..;) If you want Teams/Players that go into the stands after fans/spectators you really need to choose a sport like say ... Hhmmm ,,, basketball ... You really have to admit tho ,, this type of incident is really rare ... Most of any fighting you'll witness is between athlete's themselves... Anyone ever see how a Hotdog is made and what it's made of ?? .... Now there's something to really fight over,,,,, LOL ... :D
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
In case youi missed it..they are showing 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007s contests on ESPN classic right now LMBO
