buckbuster11
Think many hold that same idea, but many of hunters have killed deer from the ground or without going over 15 feet. If you can get yourself cover at that height and keep still sure you can be successful. My ladder stands are all 12 feet, and I have had deer walk under the ladder between me and my tree on several occasions and never had a clue I was even there. There is a good deal of pressure around here, deer do look up sometimes, and I have found myself beating my head wondering what it is that catches their attention for them to initially look up, but I have also had deer walk under me too many times to count at a mere 12 feet. Have also gotten picked off before in my climber where cover was not as good at heights over 20 feet. Really honestly think it all depends on the situation and on how still you are. Exactly. I have a wall full of nice antlers...and a ton of doe that I killed with a bow from 10'-12' ladder stands. Matter of fact, I've never killed one from a stand higher then 15'-18'. I actually think the higher you go, the worse off you are if hunting with a bow. You start getting up to 20-25', you have to start worrying about angles and distances, plus now you are shooting through 20-25' of branches and underbrush. Don't think there is a certain height you have to be at. Get off the ground a little, get some cover around you, and play the wind....you'll be fine. Guest OHjk
Michigan bowhunter. I like the Bo thing you have. Being a buckeye, you know I can't like Michigan but Bo was a pretty special coach.
